Description Spaaaace!

This is an entry for the chromatic contest held by . Details are described in this journal:

Space Art Contest: Chromatic!Space-Revived Presents... THE CHROMATIC CONTEST
At long last, the new Chromatic Contest arrives, open to all members of Space-Revived!
The theme is completely open to your imagination, with a twist: you must use only ONE OR TWO COLOURS in your space artwork. Your space art may represent anything you can imagine, but the most important thing is to champion your choice of colour.

Rules:
• You must be a member of Space-Revived to participate. However, everyone is welcome to join!
• Submit your work to our Chromatic folder.
• State in your description that the image was made for the Chromatic contest with a link to this journal.
• Two entries per deviant allowed, but only one can win.
• All entries must be created after October 14

The idea is to use only one or two colors. So, I choose purple and teal. Any resemblance between this swirling nebula and my avatar icon is completely unintentional. XD
I've been dabbling in the fractal program, Apophysis - that is, I have no idea what I'm doing. In any case, minor tweaks of one of the random batches produced this image - Apophysis-171210-240  - which I heavily modified in Clip Studio Paint to make it look like a proper space scene.

The contest ends on December 30, so there's still time if you want to give it a shot.

Beautiful! I love the swirly nebula effect, and the colors you used blend together really well! ^.^

Thank you so much!! I really appreciate your feedback!

I'm happy with the colors, too! I knew I wanted a purple nebula with teal stars around it, but I found that the a teal fringe around the purple nebula really tied the stars into the nebula. So, this happened. XD

SPAAAAAAACE!
it looks gorgeous! How did you make it?

SPACE!~

It's pretty much a lot of stars and clouds. I kind of just goofed off trying to make cloud shapes until I was happy. I looked at some pictures of spiral galaxies to see if what at all reasonable by "real" space standards, but I mostly just followed what I got from the fractal render for the shape and the shading.

Then, I put in a bunch of different kinds of stars - tiny background stars, larger stars, brighter stars, etc. I took advantage of random-scatter/speckle-types of brushes for the smaller, fainter stars, and I drew the larger stars individually.

I have a lot to learn still, but I'm still quite happy with this one. ^.^

Did you have a 'cooud' brush to do it?

HopefulZero In reply to Flame-Bloom [2017-12-29 00:28:15 +0000 UTC]

I used a mix of soft airbrushing and a "mist" brush. I went through with the airbrush first to outline the main shapes, fluffed out (or subtracted from) the main spiral with the mist brush, and airbrushed in highlights.
