Lovely Kind of reminds me of the terrain from the movie Soldier or The Chronicles of Riddick

terragen is without a doubt very effective... but the scene looks too clean. some loose gravel, dead vegetation and environment effects Ie: specular glow. would make this a daily dev for sure.

Thank you freelancer89...I agree with your comments. This is an early image from me...I would handle the surface and postwork differently today, given the chance.

Wonderful piece of work! Textures on the rocks are perfect, and the simple but realistic athmosphere makes your work much closer to a photo than to a render!

Absolutely beautiful. The terrain is really unique and those rays just make the image.

Thank you, Jakali!... That terrain is called "Mesa" and is at terranuts.com. It's a good classic landcape.

Did you do ALL of this in only Terragen? Or were there other apps used, like world machine? Very beautiful. I ask because i've been trying to get really good atomosphere results on my terragen pieces, but it just doesn't seem to have that realistic look to them like others that I see. So im wondering if some of the other pieces ive seen have been edited slightly in word machine. If so, then its safe for me to assume I need it and i'll probably look around for it.

This image was done some time ago, and includes very little postwork (just sharpening, I think). I downloaded the terrain from terranuts.com....it is called "Mesa" and was created in World Machine by Rids, my mentor and a very talented Terragen artist. You'll find lots of good terrains there!
The best way to create your own terrains is through World Machine, and you can find it at [link] >>Be sure to click on the help tab up top to get you started!...<<
I do have some tips and suggestions about atmospheres that you might find useful (or might not...heh).

The mountain that's a great distance away with the light shining on it gives this a great sense of depth...I think this would be the first time I've ever +faved a Terragen piece.

You're welcome! I don't think I have that one yet. I go over to Terranuts and raid their terrains every so once in awhile, but I didn't find it offhand. I have been looking for a terrain like that. I'll go take a look. Thanks!

holy fuck.. i hope you dont mind swearing, but thats the first thing that came to mind when i saw this! how do you get everything so precise?! heyy, you know what would be really really really cool if you ever wanted to do me (and everyone who loves terragen) a favor? you could do a little walkthrough kinda thing with some screenshots to give us an idea.. because right now all i can do is like.. mounds of green dirt with water around them.. lol
well, give it a thought.. anyway, back to your art. freaking amazing is all i've gotta say... ... nobody's perfect
