The thin layer of melting snow crunched under the heaviness of the stallion walking across the field, his silver mane turned golden in the rays of the setting sun. He stopped, surveying the area and checking for anything new - but it was still just a vast sea of snow, covering the dead grass peeking out beneath. There wasn’t even a single fresh scent on the wind, it almost seemed to be completely lifeless. The stallion, Blythe, gave a short huff of contempt, turning his head to look back at the trail of footprints he’d left, and pondered over just how long he’d been walking. He was tired, but restless, he felt that this meadow would swallow him up if he didn’t eventually make it to the end, wherever that may be.
It has to be out there somewhere. Blythe thought, lowering himself onto the ground for a moment’s rest. Or else this must be Purgatory.
The silver stallion snorted at the idea. He was getting real tired of seeing all that white, and looked forward to the coming spring, the patches of grass that poked out gave him some semblance of hope for this. Blythe exhaled quietly, his breath coming out of his nose in a cloud of vapor, rising just briefly into the cold air before quickly dissipating.
Not much longer now… He sighed to himself. I could at least get a few mares to keep me company, it would make the weather a bit less cold. He pondered, standing up with a grunt. Maybe just two or three…
The stallion then started on his path through the seemingly never ending meadow once again, his tail swishing behind him. Maybe he would finally come to the edge of the meadow soon.
