Thank you, I love Barn Owls. They have such subtle coloring, and are very quiet unless hungry...then they talk a lot!!!

An old friend I grew up with. These birds were often heard and seen in the long evening twilight where I grew up in Ohio. They would hunt the mice in the corn fields, especially after the harvest when they would be out in the fields after the corn that was left by the harvesters.

I've had one sleeping in our bent old pine tree in the top back of our property. He or she has lived there for years, and this year acquired a mate and raised a family of four. It was a bit noisy in the back this summer with the parents calling to each other and all the young squabbling and calling out for food. I hope they come back and nest here again next year. They are beautiful, amazing creatures, and look very large when flying against the night sky. It's a privilege to know owls or just to be able to observe and enjoy them.

Indeed it is. For many years I had a sage prayer fan from an owl wing. It had died in the winter and we put it out into the forest with all proper ceremony, the fan being a gift and a memory of a magnificent spirit.
