Description Just a little idea of what a coat of arms for a Yugoslav Empire might look like. It's obnoxious, excessive, and more than a little bit ridiculous, but it's pretty.
It was inspired in part by this coat of arms of the Russian Empire , and in part by Fenn-O-maniC 's excellent map Germany of the Balkans  (although obviously in his timeline, Bulgaria is the primary power, as opposed to Serbia)

The escutcheon in the centre is that of the Kingdom of Serbia, on an white imperial eagle (the white two-headed eagle also being a symbol of Serbia) holding the Royal Orb and Sceptre, and crowned with the Crown of Serbia. The escutcheon is surrounded by the Order of Saint Prince Lazar, and surmounted by the Nemanjić Crown. The mantling is surmounted by the Karađorđević crown, as used in the OTL Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
The escutcheons in the lower half of the coat of arms are those of the primary components of the empire and are (from left to right): Bulgaria, Bosnia, Slovenia/Carniola, Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, and Croatia. All are crowned with the Crown of Serbia with the exception of Bulgaria and Croatia, which are crowned with the Crown of Bulgaria and the Crown of Zvonomir respectively. (Note: I did want to crown the arms of Albania with the Helmet of Skanderbeg, but I couldn't get it to look right. And yes, I know Albania isn't Slavic.)

The escutcheons in the upper half of the coat of arms represent various other components of the empire and some historical regions. They are (from left to right): Trieste, Dubrovnik, and Rijeka, Gorizia, Gradisca, and Istria, Dobruja, Illyria, Thrace, Bulgaria Ancient, Dalmatia, Slavonia, Rumelia, Moesia, the Banat, Dardania, Rascia and Tribalia, and Hercegovina, Zeta, and Sandžak (the arms of which I know technically wouldn't have existed then but I thought it was rude to leave it out).

My intention here isn't to express any support for a 'Greater Yugoslavia' or imperialism in general, but is just to explore the heraldry of the Balkans, therefore any nationalistic nonsense in the comments will probably be deleted. That said, comments and constructive criticism are always welcome!

Credit to Wikipedia for most of the elements used, however the Nemanjić Crown and the Order of Saint Prince Lazar I did make myself (with a fair amount of artistic licence), and the Royal Orb and Sceptre are very heavily altered versions of those of the Holy Roman Empire, taken from the Habsburg arms (again, with some artistic licence).

This is very impressive, and an interesting concept. However, I have to say that the eagle looks too Germanic for a Slavic realm.
Of course, for all I know they all looked like that.
Still a great picture. Thank you for sharing.

I think this eagle is a re-jigged one from the coat of arms of the Austrian Empire so you're definitely right in it being a bit Germanic, but I'm glad you like it all the same!

It's a great piece; I like the Yugoslav coat of arms, and a "United Kingdom of Yugoslavia" is something I'd like to write about someday...if I can figure out where to go with it...and make it sound good outside my head.

Vielen dank! I'm glad you can actually see that, it doesn't really show up so well on a green background unfortunately

This is great.

Can you do a Coat of Arms of the Greater Occitan-Catalan Empire (as a thought experiment)?

Thanks!
I don't *generally* do commissions (mainly because of time commitment issues), but I was actually thinking earlier about doing something Occitania related so I may well end up doing that, it's an interesting idea!

By the way: This thing is so fucking huge that my PC takes ages to show it in max-zoom. And my rig is state of the art

That's probably because I'm incapable of making things an appropriate file size haha, I'll shrink it down a bit!

Also, if you think this PNG is bad enough, you should see the SVG file: it takes my poor dying laptop a good 5 minutes to open it!
