How do you get them to balance like that? I want to do a set of dragons with beads (like the popular dice dragons), and I'd like for a few (one at least) to be posed like this with the bead under the raised paw, but I don't have enough wire for a full body structure.

If you're short on wire, you can use something like tin foil as a core for the body. I use a small armature for the bodies of all my dragons, but I only use wire to strengthen small slender parts, like the front legs of this guy. He didn't even need wire in his hind legs because they were sturdy enough already.

Tin foil is a good idea, I'll try it for sure! I'm so jealous of your hind legs; I can never get the haunches to look thick enough.
