Description

An Amphibia-inspired Bullywug assassin. I plan to play this character in some future campaign.

„Can you finally tell me why you decided to drag me into this bug infested mudhole?“ A burly half orc said as he swatted another mosquito that was drinking from his neck.

„I've already told you that this about my new business venture my dear Broga.“ The slightly smaller partner of the half orc grinned smugly, his sharp fangs hinting a trace of tiefling in his bloodline.

„You may not know it yet, but you are standing on unspeakable riches right now.“

„Unspeakable riches? I can hardly imagine this place to hold much else than diseases and rotten plants.“

„And that's exactly what is going to earn us a fortune.“

The half orc glanced at his partner. „...diseases?“

„No, rotten plants. You see, under a few layers of water and mud lies the treasure that will set us up for life.“

„...I think the swamp gasses got to your brain Aermi.“

The tiefling stands still and raises his index finger as if to make a big announcement. „Peat, dear friend. The substance that will heat our kilns and fuel our industry. Once we got this place dried up we will have access to a nearly unlimited supply of material to burn. Forget about chopping wood. The people in town will buy this stuff in bulk.“

The half orc finally lost his sour expression. „Now you've got me interested. So what's your plan? Carry the water away with buckets?“

„I will hire one of the wizards. Surely they know of a few spells that can dry this place up. It won't be cheap but it will be a good investment. After that is done I want you to get the people of your clan and have them harvest the peat. You can promise them that they will never be out of work again.“

„I've gotta say Aermi, this might be the first of your crazy ideas that could work out.“ The half orc reaches out for his neck after feeling another sting, already expecting another insect bite. As he tries to grab the bug he instead touches a needle that has lodged itself into his neck and before he can even make sense of how it got there the poison contained within it already took effect and the half orc blacked out to fall face down into the mud.

„What the...“ The tiefling panicked and immediately took flight. The marshy ground made it incredibly tedious for him to escape this secluded swampland. With each of his steps he felt the ground itself cling to his legs but out of fear he continued to haste past the shrubs and dead trees. Under heavy breath he tried to find a sign of his attacker but he could not find anything in this sea of muddied gray. After a few minutes of fleeing from an unknown pursuer his legs and lungs forced him to seek rest behind a tree. „There is no way it could have gotten this far.“ he said to calm himself down. „No one outruns Aermi Felrun, four times champion of the annual-“ After returning to his smug demeanor he turned around only to stare into a single yellow eye that was watching him from between the bushes. In a moments notice the creature jumped at him and his throat was cut by the single strike of an obsidian knife. The Tiefling fell down to the ground where the red of his blood mixed with the gray of the muddy water. In his last moments of consciousness he saw a green froglike creature standing over him to stare at his face with an expression of pure hatred.

This was the eight time she encountered outsiders during her scouting missions since the last full moon. „So something or someone must have reeled the city folk up. They wouldn't come here without a reason.“ Iztlactli thought to herself. „If this continues they will eventually find our tribe. And then they will kill all of them. The civilized know no respect for the people of the wild so they will destroy all of this.“ Iztlactli knew that she had to prevent this. It was a heavy decision for her, but even though she has never left her homeland before, she was the only one in her tribe that possessed the skills to deal with the task at hand.

The young bullywug returned home to convey her ideas and findings to the elders of her tribe and with a heavy heart they agreed to send Iztlactli away to fulfill her mission. She left the swamp to find the people that were responsible for the encroaching invasion of her swamp. She would eliminate everyone that would harm the future of her people.
