Description
Commissioned work from the talented www.fiverr.com/lindraws . Jean is the pirate captain of a WIP science fantasy, "Once Upon a Planet," guiding his ship the Laughingstock throughout the known universe. Smarmy, capricious, and cruel, you'd probably have a fun time with him at a party so long as you weren't someone who drew his ire. His dream is to become the greatest pirate whom ever lived - a goal that seems closer than ever given that one of his spouses, Unathi, has access to hidden caches of treasures from humanity's precursor civilization.
The son of a pub owner's daughter and a wandering debt slave who worked on a fishing vessel after a one night stand, Jean was always something of a bad seed, despite the best efforts of his parents. Even when he was younger, he would frequently steal from the estates of nobility in his country given his utter disdain and hatred for inherited wealth and privilege. After being raised for some time by his mother and grandfather, he encountered his dad again on a chance visit to the same port that he had been at before several years ago - and, recognizing the boy was his, offered to help raise him. After much deliberation, and at Jean's insistence given his desire to travel off world, he was soon sailing the stars with his pops and his dad's new husband (having earned the ship he'd once been forced to work on after several grueling years of hard labor). His biological father's husband never approved of him, a feeling that Jean made sure was mutual, and once he turned 16 he was quickly thrown to the wolves after his dad's husband suggested to Jean's father that he be made to serve in the anti-piracy navy that sailed through the universe trying to put a stop to criminal enterprises. At this time, however, his father's health had been worsening due to a lifelong battle with alcoholism and Jean protested that he didn't want to go, both out of sheer contrarianism and the fact he felt his father was nearing the end of his life. Ultimately, he was cast out, and he served with minor distinction aboard the vessel; for a time, he even adjusted, given that it satiated his wanderlust and his superior officer at the time, a nobleman from his home world, caught his fancy. This infatuation would be short lived, however, as the nobleman was killed in a struggle one day when a ship they'd boarded refused to let them search it. In anger that the navy wouldn't pursue the crew that'd drew Jean's ire, as well as hearing about the death of his father from a liver that had finally given out on him, he decided to strike out on his own, managing to persuade most of his fellow shipmates at the time that they should follow him, and killed the man sent to replace his crush. He wears the admiral's coat now both as a joke and a matter of pride - it's the most expensive thing he owns, after all, aside from his signature pipe.
Murder, drug running, black market work, counterfeit operations, and even slave trafficking, Jean has done just about everything to make himself a thorn in the side of authorities on any given planet he decides to step foot on. Of course, the only person more dangerous than him is his first mate, and wife, Wu...
