Be encouraged today. As we continue our season of repentance, be encouraged. Don't allow Lent to be a drag, a time of sorrow and self abasement, don't allow it to be a time of sorrow and feeling guilty.

Instead, repentance should be a great joy, and as we go though this time of Lent, let us have joy, let us meditate on the grandeur and mercy of the great God who has made a way for us to unite with Him, unworthy as we are.

Sometimes we hear Roman Catholic friends joke about "Catholic guilt," and there have even been many in the protestsnt world who believe that repentance is a kind of guilt that should have us hanging our heads down. But St. John of Climacus reminds us that these kinds of ideas should remain very far from the Orthodox Chdistian, we must keep our heads up, and our eyes fixed on Jesus Christ, if we do that, our repentance will be full and we will experience the great dictum of Fyodor Dostoyevsky when he was asked, "what is Orthodox Christianity?" And he replied, "Orthodox Christianity is joy."

Repentance is a joy, and as we have come to the second half of Lent, let us never forget that Lent is about fasting, repentance, life change, and of course, joy!
