What I like about this is your efforts to keep the spirit of the drawing alive with your inking approach. The hatching looks very good. It just looks somewhat disjointed because of the clean, solid inking you applied to some of the drawing (the heavy black areas like the lead guy's fists), but that is more because of the way the pencils were done than anything else.

However, it's the job of the inker to make creative decisions to unify the piece. Either apply the same approach to the whole thing or leave out the hatching entirely. As it stands, it looks like two different, equally skilled inkers with different styles tackled different parts of the drawing.

I think adding some heavier line weights around the characters that are closer to the foreground would have helped visually separate them and make the work look tighter overall. But if this were colored, that point would be less relevant.

This is all true. I feel that I could make it more cohesive if I spent more time on it. I would need to focus on just inking for about 6 months in order for it to be a reasonable quality. This work is sloppy at best and was truly the best I could do at this point. It was a good test for me and I'm glad I did it so I know where I stand. I could have spent a few more hours on this piece but I just don't have the patience to be an inker. THe whole time I'm inking I want to draw something else. I'm sure you understand that, so I got through it. It's decent and I'm done with my foray into inking other peoples work. Thanks for the crit.

Don't give up if you enjoy it. I wasn't trying to beat you down or anything, just give something to think about. As I said, it looks like two skilled inkers with different styles worked on it. Had you gone one way or the other with the hatching, it would have been perfect. As it stands, the inks do improve upon the pencils, which is entirely the point.

I really don't enjoy it. I would like to spend some time in the future meshing the hatching with the pen tool but as of right now I think I will only be skilled enough to ink my own work. Thanks again.

Well you may think so, but I do envy your inked work here. posted another group pic that I'll be trying. Have any advice when it comes to inking? I haven't had a lot of experience yet.

I am not qualified to give any tips on inking. I can point you at and so you can study how they do it, but that's about all.
