Description As promised, here’s the procreate version of Simeon! It was a ton of fun stepping outside my comfort zone and trying a new program for the first time in well over five years…

The first thing I noticed while rendering was that the brushes were so much higher quality on procreate. The texturing on them especially felt way more organic than in ibis. The low opacity erasers were also absolutely wonderful compared to Ibis’s persistent desire to delete your art’s entire existence. One thing I did notice that threw me off was the percentage system for sizing brushes. I’m used to brush size being counted in pixels, so mentally calculating how big my brush needed to be was hard to get used to. Beyond that, the smudge too was super nice! Too nice, in fact! The smudge tool in Procreate did a better job seamlessly blending strokes which made it way harder to create the textured accent lighting I’m so accustomed to. It did wind up working beautifully for the shading on his gold accents though, so that was a major plus.

Another thing I noticed was that the add layers didn’t feel as assertive as they are in Ibis. Normally, I would consider this a good thing, but with the harsh backlight I had planned for Simeon, it wound up biting me in the butt. I think this particular problem boils down to me being unfamiliar with what brushes and techniques I need to use. I did miss the filters that ibis has, but the controlled paint-on version of the filters they did have was really cool.

Anywho, I really enjoyed the challenge of working with a new program, and moving a project between the two programs was shockingly easy. Who knows! I might try messing around with procreate more in the future
