Description this is a character that's been raddling between my ears for a while and is related to my avatar. Haven't got a name yet so I'll just call him the 'Miner' for now.

Story synapis: 2049, the Petro War ('30-'36) has been over for 13 years and the nuclear winter caused by the EF's (Earth First extremists) nuclear strikes on the world's major oil producing area's, fallout and radiation made it impossilble to extinguish the oil field fires adding to the darkness. Over 2 billion died in the initial fires, another 2 the first year. On the brink, the US, Japan, and what is left of the EU industrailize and pool remaining resource to make it through the terror of the dark and cold. In Extreme times Extreme acts need to be taken, the major construction/mining/industrial equipment manufactures combine under the management of Cat and begin building the extreme machines need for the survival of the human race and it's a good thing too, becuase in the upcoming battle mankind needs all the help they can get.

The Miner:

36 6'1" 205 lbs. Former United States Marine ('19-'36)

A GunnerySergeant with a good career as a Heavy Equipment mechanic/operator. Severely injured by an RPG strike on his D11 dozer while building a fire break, he fights back with the dozer, demolishing several buildings and taking out extremists. The injuries were severe, his left forearm could not be saved with massive shrapnel injuries to the rest of his body. After rehab/rebuild returned to the frontlines, not as a HE operator but as what a Marine is a Grunt, but with a big grudge. The big bang hits and he goes back to base, 18 months later he's shipped out to the Arizona proving grounds, to be an instructor in HE operation, but when he is introduced to the new CAT Mega Biped Excavator, he knew he had found a new home. Discharged from the Marines and going into the private sector with a prototype chassis to instruct the new miners in equipment use. A decade passes and the human race has clawed it's way from the brink, but the cost has been great, coal and any obtainable oil fuel sources are running out. After being 'Space blind' for a decade, the clearing winter allows more sky/space watching and a rogue comet skirts the system, it's 2X the size of earth and the needed resources seem limitless.

This becomes the new century gold rush, but the comet is not what it seems, the initial prospecting finds it to be alive and inhabited, back tracking the prospecting probes the earth is in for another battle, and the ol'skool machinery is at the front!

okay, this may be abit sketchy, still workin' on it

My blue pencils are nubs an have gone back to plain ol' graphite for initial layout, but this one looked good so I stayed with the style, an I like it.

I still need to work on the story outline, that wil come later

Whoot! Pipe Wrench for a weapon! It's my weapon of choice in the Wasteland, too.

This dude is a grade-A badass!
I dig what you've got going so far story-wise.
His background is sufficiently gritty, and about all you could ask for in a sci-fi protagonist. I like a shitkicker who's paid his dues.

Enjoy it!
As a fellow artist/writer the best advice I can give is to have fun.
If the writer is enjoying himself, then it's evident in the reading.

Also, not sure if you enjoy books, but reading as many as you can is essential for any writer.
If you do, I'd be interested to hear what you're into.
If not, I could recommend a bunch.

I'm very into books, although I don't have much time to read I have found audiobooks and my Ipod is full of them. As for what I like to read, Stephen King and Dean Koontz are my fav's I loved the 'Heritage Trilogy by Ian Douglas' a kickass Sci-fi Marine Corps series. Currently trying to finish S.M Striling's 'roctector's War'

Please recommend, I'm always looking to expand my library.

King and Koontz are giants, but gotta look into this Ian Douglas cat.

I'm gonna post a journal entry soon w/ several solid reading recommendations.
Tasted too many good books recently not to spread the word.
Plenty of artists here who also write [like meself] so...

I have read the 'Dark Tower' series several times, and listened as many. Altough I have been disappointed by several of Koontz's Audiobooks, I highly recommend 'The Good Guy' and 'Tick-Tock' Five Stars all the way!!! Yes you gotta check out Ian Douglas, I was mostly a horror/D&D reader and a good friend gave me the first book of the trilogy because it was about the Marine Corps and it turned me onto the sci-fi scene, the first book: 'Semper Mars' f'n awesome!!!!! the second book: 'Luna Marine' continued the story pretty well flawlessly, and the third: 'Europa Strike' ended the initial trilogy and set it up for the next series, 'The Legacy Series' finished the first book, rather long and tedious, but fair. Quit reading the second about a quarter way through, jus' to much detail killing the story, kinda like the book I'm trying to finish now.

I have always tried to give as much detail without overwhelming the reader, which is usually me tryin to edit it, Having taken a 'Creative Writing' course at a communtiy college, I found the feedback rather hypocrtitical, if I commented well on a fellow students work in concept but commented badly on content, my work was usually torn to pieces in every aspect, mostly by those authour's I critized constructively. I took that in stride, I was there to learn, and although I haven't written much lately I may embrace the keys again for a time and see what this ol'noodle can produce.

Sorry got on abit of a rant, had a shity day the heat been a bastard (althou it has been a cooler August) the humidity makes me feel like I'm back east

Hey man, rant away.
Sorry I'm slow to reply, the little guy has been hazing my ass!

Appreciate all the literary suggestions. 'Semper Mars' is a genius title.
Despite the obnoxious feedback, it's cool you gave the creative writing course a go.

will catch up more later, dude... w/ more substantial reply.
