Wow! Okay, this took such a long time to make, 35 to 40 hours I'd say. But dang did it pay off. I'm usually overly modest, but not this time. This turned out awesomely! I'm super pleased.I hope you enjoy it!
And just as a side note: I don't have this as my head canon. It's just a silly idea I got a while ago. Trying to tie the reason for Sombras "evil" magic and the alicorn magic together. He probably just started to dabble in powers that where beyond him. Or something. Like I said, just a silly little idea.
Second side note: This is with out a doubt the tallest thing I've drawn. 12k pixels. Holy ship that's a lot!
As per usual with comics, there's just too many replies. I've read each and every one. And I'm grateful for them all, but I just can't reply to that many. So thanks!

I must say the artwork is very well drawn. The story was well thought out. I never would have thought to tie Starswirl the Bearded to King Sombra. The way Celestia and Luna handled the situation was well worked out, where Luna wanted to let the ponies know the truth and Celestia wanted to keep order over panic. Luna wanted her sisters would tended and Celestia was more concerned over the integrity and legacy of Starswirl then herself.
Overall I really enjoyed this. My only true complaint is I would have done the dialogue boxes/scrolls a different color for Luna and Celestia. I had to read through a few times to make clear who was saying what.

The dialogue does have different colors for them. But it's very hard to see. And that is on purpose, since I do want people to go over the comic a few times to pick up on all the little details.

Color me impressed! Now while I haven't heard this specific show theory before, I'm sure it exists somewhere in this fandom, but your execution was perfect. It's short, yet also very well done and illustrated beautifully.
The show never really explained Starswirl beyond his inability to make friends and his contributions to magic, and never really talk about Sombra at all. But in the former's quest for more powerful magic, it wouldn't be surprising that he stumbled upon dark magic and became consumed by it. While turning into Sombra is a stretch, it's not out of the picture.
I also have to complement you on your atmosphere. Little details like the blue and red tapestries hanging along the hall, or his cloak burning away are really intriguing!
There are a few critiques I have however. First is Sombra/Starswirl's eyes in panel 7(?). I get the effect you're going for, but even for a comic, they look sort of cartoony rather than evil: I think it's portrayed better in panel 8. I think it just boils down to personal opinion on the look, but I don't go for it.
Number two is that there seems to be a distinct lack of guards. Granted, this would have added much more time and effort into the piece, but having a few defeated guards, or some on duty would give it a little more atmosphere. But they would just be icing.
All in all, a great work! Keep it up!

Great atrwork nice shading and I love how you make them look younger.
Also I love the concept of this comic I have to say this would make a great storyline! I really enjoyed the way you drew Sombra/Star Swirl.
I like how Luna feels it would be slightly better to tell the truth but Celestia refuses showing that she is a slightly more mature pony who understands what a fright it could cause to the other ponies.
I like how Celestia wants to still honors Star Swirl by naming a hall after him.
Overall I think this deserves 5 stars

By "Theory" you mean headcanon. Β Theories are ideas/hypothesis that have been tested through and not yet disproven, largely supported by fact or atleast primary canon.
So these would not be "Theories" actual in line with definitions, but still make for some neat AU's / Headcanons.
As for Luna -> Crisy, Β I tend perhaps to favor the idea set forth by "Love, in all its forms" Β read by Scribbler.

While this isn't my head canon, it is an interesting idea and it would explain the fact that we don't get a lot of Sombra's backstory. I also don't want to think what would happen if Twilight found out this was true.

I have to say, that Starswirl turning into Sombra is much more likely than him turning into Discord,
since he failed to become an alicorn but Sombra still utilzes alicorn magic and Dicord generally seems to be a more powerful character,
but I have to admit that I never thought of it,
so I think the idea the comic is based on alone is pretty ingenius
I also like your style and I think it fits the comic, that the ponies aren't especially made out to be adorable.
The only thing I could see that is not being as good as it could be, are, as The-Music-Mafia already pointed out, Sombras eyes in panel 7,
but other than that you did a fantastic job

Yeah the eyes in that panel are a bit more "silly" than the rest. But I think it works, seeing as it's based on a cartoon. But the argument is fair. I'm really glad you liked it and thanks so much for the kind reply.

Spectacular, this is probably one of, if not the best pony comic I have personally ever seen. I happen to be quite the fan of the idea that Starswirl went mad with power and was put down. Not necessarily that he became any villain, but those are rather interesting in their own right. So I must say, well done good sir, the art is top notch, I like how you portrayed the princesses in their "youth" color pallets. The dialogue was also spot on, and the general flow of the comic, having the conversation in the background while seeing the events that took place, marvelous. 10 out of 10 hands down.
