I'm not typically in support of AI tools but I was curious and wanted to test out what this tool was (for research purposes). My prompt was simple - mermaid swimming in a dark ocean, colorful artwork, watercolor, neon colors and I think it was pretty spot on. What do you think?

Note - To any artists viewing this artwork. I want to take this moment to say, I APPRECIATE YOU and the work you do. As I said in my statement above, this was for educational purposes to test out the tool so that I can educate myself on how it works, experiment with the resource and knowledge. This movement in AI is a little alarming. To think that just a few years ago, artists would spend hours to create work like what is here on this screen and yet, in a few moments, with just a quick prompt, this was born into this word with little effort. Art is created with passion and I'm curious about what passion is driven within an AI.

Also, food for thought - there's a great article about the develop of this tool, the controverses and the way DA has addressed them or shifted the development of the tool, etc. by Joseph Foley on Creative Bloz (Nov. 2022). I think we need to remember that if we fight for the right of artists and the way that AI tools may be borrowing from their work, we also need to be mindful of other content creators that contribute content on the web (bloggers, authors, writers, etc.) who's content is shared and often not correctly cited.
