numbah one present!

this is a birthday present for my lovely roommate. it is, obviously, a portrait of tom welling in the classic super man pose. amelia's obsessed with smallville, you see. and since tom welling makes the hottest clark kent ever, he was a lot of fun to paint. he was just plain fun anyway--i'm not used to doing full-blown realism work, but it's so enjoyable! a number of photo references were used, by which i mean too many because i didn't want it to look like i just copied a photo.

after a major dilemma, i decided to stick with the old super s look in which it seems to be fabric and blend in rather than the shiny relief super s of recent years. this piece ultimately seems better slightly simpler.
