It seems I was sopmewaht a lemming as when I glanced at it and experienced head trauma, limb loss and death I put it on favorites before blowing it up. Then I saw the things that led to my issues with it.

There are a lot of nice things about it, but that edge really bugged me. Apart from that my main complaint is that the ship/whatever the freak that thing is is placed right smack in the middle, leaving a fairly boring composition overall. The details of the ship thingie are nicely done and overall I still like the piece, but it could use some further development.

Pretty interesting piece. At least it is not as trendy as many others submitted.
I like the fact that there's some modeling in this piece.. something I have not seen in quite alot of time. Yet.. It is rather confusing, it doesn't show clearly what it is.

I won't go down and find glitches, or discuss the edges of the image, etc.. that is somewhat petty. As an abstract wallpaper, it does kick ass.. seen from another 3D artist point of view.. It's somewhat good, since it is heavily manipulated in photoshop. But hey it's permitted I am just saying that I would have done it differently. Would You try making this with some kind of organic texture?

Its all a matter of taste some people love this kinda work others think its okay and still others find it boring- I personally think it pretty wild but truthfully its not my style but I definitely respect the talent. Anyway- I know I couldnt do that kind of piece I do really like the textures and colors though I agree it might flow better if it were blended into the background but some people probably like that hard raw edge. Either way great work!

I'm sorry but I'm gonna go against the popular opinion on this piece.

I will, however, give you some actual critique and not the almost worthless crap the majority has been spewing. ("Awesome!", "This ROCKS!" etc.)

The main 3d work, as stated by (from what I can see) 1 other Deviant, looks like it was cut and paste from a render. Now I know how much of a bitch it is to get clean edges, but come on, these are pretty bad and stand out. It's not like I had to look for them or anything, they're blatently obvious, and it really detracts from the piece.

Next is the fact that because of these hard edges, it looks like the 3d is 'floating' over the background. I do not know whether that was your goal or not, and if it was, it did not turn out very good imho. It would have looked a lot better blended into the background.

As for the background itself, the texturing is pretty basic looking. It looks not like a believable texture, just beveled noise for the most part. The 'Clouds' filter is quite obvious and would have looked nicer if it was faded into the background more, or was darker.

But despite these, of course there are pluses The texturing on the 3d is somewhat unique and was pulled off pretty well, as was the shadowing.

The lighting and the ring in the center of the background looks very nice too, and would have to be one of my favourite parts of this piece.

I suppose that's it!

The main model looks very cut and pasted right now, softening up the edges of that white stuff would really make this more appealing to at least one more person. But then again, maybe this is the way you wanted it. In any case, I think its pretty cool.
