...Yes. Yes we did have fun. Yes we were hot as hell, and yes I'd do it again in a heartbeat.Oh my goodness guys. I have NEVER ever had so much fun in a costume before. I insulted people (mostly Darkwing tried to push her out of a few pictures XD) denied hugs and pulled my hand away at the last second from handshakes and scared the crap out of people with my chainsaw. (When I pushed a button it shook and made noise and seeing as how I'd put it up to the person's neck who wanted a picture with us and turn it on the last second... riiiiiiight before the flash. Oh man... I got one amazing scream out of a girl.... it was fantastic.)
I even printed out pictures of DW that DJ signed and handed out to people. We got a ton of "OH MY GOD IT'S DARKWING DUCK!" (To which I'd yell "SHUT UP DON'T CHEER FOR HIM!"
) ... I think I'm going to shut up now. I'm totally rambling.

shame you didn't have the gas gun I had as a child...it was a box top send in thing from some cereal or other...inside the barrel was the circle from a bubble wand. dip in solution, pull the trigger to rev a fan, and it blew bubbles!

I'm also a costumer and I have been wanting to do a Darkwing costume for a while now. I'm curious about a few things:
--Where did you get the hats?
--Where did you get the feet?
--How did you do the duck heads? I've been having trouble finding a duck head mask with a bill that is the proper shape.

Found the hats at Kohls and spray painted them the right colors.
Made the feet and masks.

Wow, the costumes look great! I wish I was there! I'm glad you guys went all out and became the characters--that just sounds like so much fun! And DW handing out autographed photos! Makes me wonder if anyone got you guys on vid and put it up on youtube....
You guys sooo make me want to try my hand at making a DW/Negs costume but I'm a total newb at the sewing machine (I only got one this last month)! Was the chainsaw a toy you bought?

I always thought if they made a more action packed and less child oriented version of DW then it would be like your fanfics--I always thought that'd be cool. Sorry to gush at you.

Ah finally found the person who made this costume.
I have a few questions for you. I want to make my own DWD costume (I know yours is the Negaduck) I saw this on google and my jaw dropped and its made me wanna make one for Fan Expo but totally different ideas in mind. (Well I thought of cosplaying him because I got into doing artwork and then did research to see if anyone else cosplayed him and found this) Anyway I'll cut down to what I wanted to ask.
When did you wear these (as in what year) and did you get noticed a lot in it? I don't wanna wear it and have no one know who I am 
The beak looks difficult to make. I thought of using craft foam to make it, but I don't want it to turn out bad. or sewing one and stuffing it.
Were the coats difficult to make? I'm a beginner at sewing and just started to learn the machine.
Anyway I am totally looking forward to trying to make one.
I don't like full face masks because I get too hot and its hard to breath in them. I thought maybe white face paint and then making stuffed cheeks and attaching them to the beak.

I've worn my Negs costume alongside DW twice (Otakon 2008 and New York Comic Con 2009) and both times we could barely walk five paces without being blinded by flashbulbs or random people screaming "HOLY BALLS IT'S DARKWING DUCK!"
So yes. These costumes were VERY well received. DW handed out her autographed pictures very fast.
As for the bills I sort of made them up as I went along (I made both mine and DW's (who is my sister)). they're mostly masking tape and wireform. Cheap materials that did the job super well. (There's a picture of the base of my Negs mask here [link] ) I bought some Rigid Wrap and air dry clay (called Paper clay) to smooth out the bills and all that. And then painted the bejeebus out of them. They do get a little stuffy, but not as bad as other masks I've made.
As for the coats, my mother actually made them. She's a professional seamstress so they didn't give her that much trouble. You can find a double breasted jacket pattern at a local fabric store that you can use I'm sure. The biggest problem(s) we encountered was trying to hide the *ahem* less manly parts of our torsos. But the coats were big enough so it wasn't too too bad. It's something to keep in mind though.
You could probably make craft foam work for your mask, it may be a bit tricky but alongside duct tape it's a cosplayer's best friend.

Being stalked by cameras sounds like fun. I haven't had it happen as much as some people but I do know what its like to be trying to get somewhere and being stopped
a bunch of times a long the way. (Downside is I only get to wear this on the Saturday night and the Sunday for the day but at least I have some time though seeing as how popular the character will be might be a good thing
I had the thrift store in mind actually if worst came to worst and I could not make the jacket myself I was going to go to Value Village or something and modify something from there. My friend got her purple Joker jacket from there so like you said probably would have no problem finding something.
I want to attempt to make it myself at least because I wanna enter the masquerade and do the whole "I am the terror that flaps in the night" Bit
I might try the craft foam idea first then if it fails I will sew it with some yellow fabric and stuff it I have since I have a lot of it I will be using it for the legs and feet as well.
I have no problem with the less manly torso parts lol. Fortunately small enough to hide.
Glad you had fun in yours I will send you links when I'm done it or even pics from the con (Which isn't until the end of Augest) But I need to start soon because this stuff takes a while to make. Thanks for the luck

OMG!!!!! That is the best Darkwing and Negaduck costumes ever!!!! I know you probably don't want to give away the secret but where did you get the beaks and the feet? Or how did you make them? I'm sorry but I'm thinking about going as Quakerjack for Halloween and it would be nice to know where to get Duck Feet and Duck Beaks!!!!

I made both the masks and the feet myself. The feet were thick sheets of foam glued into a dome shape onto foam board with holes for our sneaker bottoms to fit through then covered in fabric that was air brushed the same color as our "legs".
The masks were more difficult. I used wire form to make imprints of our faces and building up a wire form base of the beaks. Then I covered those with masquing tape and attached elastic bands to go around our heads to keep them on. Then I built up ontop of that with ridgid wrap to give them the smooth shape and painted ontop of that.
It took a while but it was fun! Good luck with Quackerjack! I'd love to see it when it's done!

Sadly the capes were not wrinkle or rip proof. DW would be so dissappointed at our shabby imitations. ;D
