Description
Name: Andromeda Smith
Nickname: Andi
DOB: 8/25/1994
Gender: Female (She/her)
Height: 5’0”
Pokemon: Weezing, the Poison Gas Pokémon (#110)
Totem Traits:
- Gas: Andi’s stomach has specialized internal gasses that she can regulate to make herself float. Like a boiler, she burns a lot of energy when she flies, meaning she needs sustenance if she plans on making any skywards trips.
- Horns: Two hollow horns on her forehead; they produce smoke and/or smog when Andi feels annoyed or threatened. Not great for most people, but asthmatics should really avoid upsetting Andi… (Or rather- it’d probably be wise they steer clear of her in general.)
- Tusks: Andi has two noticeable tusks that poke out from underneath her bottom lip. They don’t do much, other than look badass… and make Andi’s breathing sound funny…
Ability
Levitate: "Levitate causes the Pokémon to be raised (like Flying-type Pokémon)."
Andi can make herself float at will. She must concentrate on it though; distractions can be disastrous.
Moves
Andi’s moveset is all about defense and evasion. She has a petite build, so she must rely on tactics that hurt from afar or serve as distractions.
Smog: “The foe is attacked with a discharge of filthy gases. It may also poison the target.”
- A disgusting smog like engine exhaust emanates out of Andi’s horns in huge clouds. It obscures the area, chokes the enemy, and can potentially poison opponents, giving Andi both time and cover to get away.
Substitute: “The user makes a copy of itself using some of its HP. The copy serves as the user’s decoy.”
- Andi blows smoke to produce a ghostly figure with her measurements and features. This figure can take hits while Andi Prime looks for an escape route.
Toxic: “A move that leaves the target badly poisoned. Its poison damage worsens every turn.”
- A wet vapor leaks from Andi’s horns. The vapor blankets the area, like a damp fog, coating surfaces, people, and Pokemon in a highly toxic dew that poisons immediately upon contact. The effect grows stronger over time, causing those inflicted intensifying agony.
Dark Pulse: “The user releases a horrible aura imbued with dark thoughts. It may also make the target flinch.”
- Shadows seep from Andi’s horns, eyes, mouth, and nose. The shadows wrap around the target, engulfing them in darkness. As they’re swallowed by the black waves, whispers fill their ears. The opponent’s head soon becomes filled with a cacophony of their darkest thoughts, possibly immobilizing them for a time.
Personality
+ Clever | Creative | Resourceful | Self-reliant +
- Moody | Distrustful | Judgmental | Sardonic -
Andi used to be a galvantula until she was given a weezing mask one fateful evening. Why she was handed such a repugnant totem has yet to be assessed by her, but it has faintly occurred to her that the giver could have been making a statement. Andi, like her new totem, is hard to be around. She can be toxic, full of hot air, and her “stories” tend to be smoke and mirrors… that said, similar to how weezing have been known to produce high-grade perfumes, there is more to Andi than meets the eyes. When she puts her mind to something, she usually accomplishes it exceptionally well. She approaches life like an escape room- she has a goal, she sees the steps to achieve said goal, and then she single-handedly devises a solution to each puzzle… and slips free… easily… like smoke…. From her previous joltik and galvantula totems, she learned versatility- she could juggle multiple jobs and relationships at once to achieve her ends. Now, a weezing, she’s perfected this art; she is as adaptable as air. Andi is resourceful, clever, and creative. It’s hard to tell if she is being honest sometimes, and indeed, she will exaggerate the truth to achieve her own ends.
Andi is also known to be bossy, with a habit of offering unsolicited advice in a tone of voice that can seem condescending at best and ridiculing at worst. Always armed with a critique, Andi has been called cynical and nagging by the people who know her. While some get a kick out of her zingers, many have taken offense to her wit, leaving Andi with few friends and many adversaries. While the weezing claims she is unbothered by this- stating she’d rather be alone than surround herself with imbeciles- maybe part of her does care, just a little bit…
Those who play along with her jabs will earn her respect and maybe even her friendship, a valuable commodity for those looking for some excitement in their life. Always up for a thrill, Andi is willing to try anything at least once so as long as she knows she will make it back alive to boast about her exploits through tall tales and epic poems that make her sound casually badass. She often feels the need to go against the grain for minute reasons, and she always has to have the final say, but rest assured, there is never a dull moment around Andi. Her perpetual bad luck and inability to settle on one career or hobby has led her down some interesting paths and have taught her some skills she wouldn’t like to go to waste. In some respects, Andi can be a bit of a showboat. She likes impressing people, but she’d deny it if you accused her of it because showing off goes against her ‘dark’ and ‘mysterious’ loner vibe. Still, her longing for goods and validation cannot be denied. She’s been known to go great lengths for either (or both)— some even speculate that her snarkiness and aloof behavior are actually pleas for some kind of connection… connections that she often self-sabotages before they can blow up on her naturally…
History
Born to a mother deemed unwell and a father who likely didn’t know or care that he was one, an infant Andromeda was put into an orphanage where she’d be raised by nuns. Though she grew up calling these women ‘sister’ and mother’, they seldom expressed the familial affection these titles insinuated. The nuns were overworked, with too many children and not enough hands. Many were old-school, some had faiths twisted by envy, wrath, and bigotry. Others had become apathetic after watching the system -and, in some cases, their god- allow so many innocent children fall through the cracks. The eldest, most outspoken nuns often lost their tempers. They’d tell misbehaving children that giratina had a special place for them in hell, or they’d employ a number of humiliating punishments to steer the children back onto the “proper path.”
Children raised in such tense environments are often overtly insightful; Andi didn’t need her four joltik eyes to see it was best to keep to herself. She engaged in solitary activities like reading, writing, and watching cartoons when the nicer nuns were on duty. She rarely spoke up, even when she really wanted to tell others they were being stupid; she hardly ever played with the other children to avoid getting into altercations that’d ultimately lead to punishments; and if she wanted another helping of dessert, she had to get… inventive. With a few well-placed whispers, spinarak always seemed to appear when the sweets came out. There’d always be some poor child whose cake had a spinarak burrowed inside, or another who was startled by a spinarak that crawled onto their hand, mandibles twitching. It seemed they could not tell cake or humans apart, they both looked so sweet and delicious. Cakes and cookies and ice cream successfully abandoned, Andi, Bringer of Plagues, would reap her rewards.
Age eleven was a big year for Andi; she was selected among a handful of peers to visit a place called Raccolto. For one month the children were placed with temporary foster parents. To Andromeda, who only knew the city and orphanage, Raccolto’s rolling hills and scenic beauty was like something out of a fairy tale. The people were kind, the air was clean, and best of all- her guardians did not make her feel uneasy. For the first time in her life, Andi felt safe. As pessimistic and cynical as the young girl tended to be, she couldn’t help but fall in love with the islands. It became her dream to live on Raccolto. She did everything she could to endear herself with the mareep ranchers that took her in that month, but when they did not adopt her, Andi had to devise a new tactic. Already a precocious student, Andromeda became even more studious upon her return from the islands. She was adamant that she’d have to put her nose to the grindstone to obtain her peaceful future on Raccolto.
She’d go on to graduate from both high school and college with high marks. Life after college became a bit of a whirlwind; it being her first real taste of independence. She worked multiple jobs to make ends meet and save for her dream home. Many of her jobs were degrading, and sometimes she’d meet unsavory people and make bad choices… many of which still haunt her and make her slow to trust new people. It took years for Andi to save money and overcome her demons, but eventually she made it to Raccolto. Having lived off very little income for a number of years -certainly not enough to buy new clothes very often-, Andi’s dexterous galvantula fingers were skilled at repairing old clothes. As such, the young woman opened a laundromat and textile repair service called Brain Washed, and later, she added on a rec room for premium members.
It seemed like things were finally starting to go her way- and then one of the dryers in the laundromat mysteriously malfunctioned and Brain Washed went up in smoke and flames. After some investigating, the event was officially ruled an accident and Andi received insurance money to cover the damages. Following the loss of Brain Washed, Andi faced a dilemma she wasn’t expecting; she assumed she’d rebuild and get back on her feet, but then she found herself asking ‘did any of this really bring me happiness?’ And, shockingly, the answer was no. Raccolto had been her dream for so long and she THOUGHT it would make her as happy as it did all those years ago… but it didn’t. The entire experience was a major bust. Raccolto was boring. Her neighbors were lame. The place reeked of manure. There were bike thieves, and no one seemed to care that the harvest sprites, Goddess, weird carnines were incredibly invasive, with no respect for peoples’ lives or personal boundaries. To top it all off, Andi was still suffering from unpleasant memories. No matter how many hours she worked, how much money she made, how many people she tried reaching out to, she was still deeply unhappy. Raccolto was not the shining beacon she imagined, and it just made her harder, more pessimistic and more cynical… Dreams were not worth chasing after all, it seemed, because nothing in life is ever good enough- and dreams could not prevent the nightmares from seeping in… After coming to these conclusions, Andi was given a weezing mask, which changed her totem and made her more adamant about her decision to drift away to a place called Harthaven, hoping it’ll have whatever Raccolto didn’t. She’s since fallen back on her skills as a seamstress to make enough money to start over. Noting how many people are nostalgic for the shows she grew up with, Andi decided, at least for the time being, to profit off that adoration- and to focus on something in her past that brought her joy in the hopes it'd ease her restless depression. Positive she could make better cosplays than other artists on social media, Andi started a meager one-costume-at-a-time business that she is eager to see expand because fitting all her sewing materials into one room just isn’t cutting it.
Occupation
Job: Cosplayer/Seamstress
- Business Name: (the) Fang-Girl’s Boudoir
- Business Type: Service
- Stock Type: Cosplay (Andi makes cosplay for herself, which she posts on social media and turns into calendars and prints that she sells online and at conventions. She will also take commissions for cosplay outfits and props.)
Talents:
- Art: Andi likes making art. She got a practical degree in college but took some art classes for her extracurriculars because she’s always taken refuge in creative pursuits. Her style is pretty loose and wild- like rubberhose cartoons. She also decorated the brick walls in her laundromat, Brain Washed, with graffiti style art.
- Writing: Andi loves to journal and write poetry. She performs her poems at clubs on occasion and has written some short stories and comics in her youth. While she still enjoys coming up with a tall tale (usually something to make listeners jump), she mostly focuses on poems these days as a way to cope with emotions she doesn’t know how to talk about.
- Sewing: Andi is an excellent seamstress. She learned the skill when she was a galvantula and needed to find ways to make money in college. She started a small laundry business- she’d help kids who never had to take care of their clothes before for a price. She learned how to sew through trial and error and eventually became very good at it. Now she’s graduated from repair jobs to designing her own outfits and making costumes.
Funfacts:
-She’ll always suspect that the haunter who stalked her laundromat, played a role in the Brain Washed's destruction.
-Can eat any food without getting sick (it can be gross in general, undercooked, overcooked, expired, etc.) This is great because she cannot cook, so her awful culinary skills won’t kill her. She also often eats out or just consumes junk food- which is probably unhealthy to most people, but not to Andi!
-Her interests are varied; she enjoys the occult and anything that falls within the horror/cryptid/spooky genre, but she also likes cutesy things and pastels. (She has a crazy collection of 80’s inspired pastel toys/figurines.)
-100% reads monster love stories. Really loves vampires but will root for any monster.
-Galarian ponyta is her favorite Pokemon. She has a collection of Lisa Frank style folders and stickers featuring Galarian ponyta.
-She’s claimed she’s worked many jobs in the past. Some of these may or may not include: a movie theater team member (primarily at the ticket booth and sweeping up popcorn after the show), an escape room attendant, a waitress at a maid café, as a mascot at a well-known family restaurant chain, laundress, dog walker, babysitter, tutor, and performance artist.
-Andi used to keep to herself a lot as a child. This included making up stories, poems, and comics but she also loved to watch anime and cartoons. Anime particularly meant a lot to her because the young protagonists in them often had supportive friends and family, cool powers, and happy endings. Andi stopped believing anyone at the orphanage could have a happy ending in real life- but it was nice to see it on the screen…
-As a joltik, she used to speak to insect Pokémon using the Infestation move.
-Andi secretly likes getting attention -both positive and negative- because she grew up in a home full of other children and never stood out or was acknowledged. She was one of the better-behaved kids, so she just flew under the radar for most her life. Now, she can sometimes come off as loud, impulsive, or conceited- she just wants to get people to react to her. She wants the praise and attention she never got as a kid.
