Description Hm.. that one was initially meant to become an ID, thus the letter and my handwriting, but somehow i wasnt able to find anything senseful i could write down. I made up a random story about a bunch of villagers killing themselves instead and decided to make a normal picture out of it

Modelling Time: 30h
Rendering Time: 73h + 6h (because i forgot to add the astrolabe)
Post Processing: 2h

Hehe i think i had just read Umberto Ecos Foucaults Pendulum the first time back then. So mysticism/gnosticism and all that nonsense played a part too
Thank you!

This is quite amazing, an awesome piece of 3d Art. Definitely a +fav. Oh, perhaps you could add more potions and stuff if you're going to make an alchemy related lab ^^, just a suggestion.

RE: PS color settings-

make sure it's not set to AdobeRGB which works great in Photoshop, but doesn't translate to the web. I think you should use sRGB but maybe there is a better setting?

Really nice work by the way.

I used Cinema 4D.

I keep seeing the most delectable scenes made in Cinema 4D. I might just have to give it a go. Is it crazy hard to learn, or is it fairly intuitive?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

IgnisFerroque In reply to Helen-Baq [2007-12-11 01:33:26 +0000 UTC]

I think its relatively easy to learn, the interface is cleaned up and quite self explanatory in most cases... but i havent tried all that much with animation and script techniques, dunno about those.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Helen-Baq In reply to IgnisFerroque [2007-12-11 08:04:33 +0000 UTC]

Ok, one more question, is it a resource hog? Or does it run fairly smoothly even with a high-poly model?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

IgnisFerroque In reply to Helen-Baq [2007-12-11 13:06:12 +0000 UTC]

Hm... I have a 466MHz computer and its kinda usable, so i guess it isnt. Atleast not more than other 3D apps, but i dont really know.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Helen-Baq In reply to IgnisFerroque [2007-12-11 15:44:02 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure the speed of the processor is as important as the amount of RAM, but that's still impressive. I've had trouble running Maya on a 2.6 GHz with 1.5 GB RAM. Of course, the model I was working on is high poly, but still...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

IgnisFerroque In reply to Helen-Baq [2007-12-11 15:53:18 +0000 UTC]

896 MB here. Hm i can go up to about 1.1 - 1.2 mio polygons, but thats the point were i normally cant really model anymore and just hit the render button.

3CL1P53-XC1 [2007-12-08 20:29:05 +0000 UTC]

Awesome scene If you want to give it an older look yo can add some displacement in some areas (the book under the candle and the wall). I think that 75 hours are too much for a single image, an 1 minute animation can be that long, but not a single image, maybe you can set your vray to make it faster (or maybe is about hardware, who knows)
But, over all is a really good render, I like your style

Wow, then I REALLY admire you for your patience, you are doing much better scenes than people with better hardware , I canΒ΄t imagine what you could do with a faster machine and I prefer not to imagine a render fail or a program crash at the end of the render :/
Keep the good work

Hi,
Very good rendering.
The textures are great.
The balloon model on the shelf is wonderful. I want one for Christmas... hi hi hi

The only thing I would change (not that I know how...) is to put some movement on the flame. Will be perfect.

Cheers.

Hehe thanks, that balloon thing is almost ancient, i made it years ago and found it kinda accidently and thought i might put it in aswell

Thanks alot for the comment!

TheodenN [2007-09-20 23:18:05 +0000 UTC]

Good job, however the closest book looks too straight to be that badly damaged or old. And did you use post-production for the flame? Textures are very sharp and looks great.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

IgnisFerroque In reply to TheodenN [2007-09-21 13:36:58 +0000 UTC]

Yeah i know about the book, but im kinda fed up with the scene, so i didnt change it yet

No post production on the flame, its a simple adjusted lightsource.

Thanks alot

I really like the scene. Ur modeling and texturing is pretty good there is a scope in lighting and rendering but still ur scene is quite good u can go for its photorealstic version.
