Description Doing the cast of FF6 as ponies now. It's going to be part of a bigger collage I'm planning. Pencil Sketch colored in GIMP.

So I don't know about this one, guys. I decided to use the Path tool to help me do more straight lines, which has been my biggest problem in coloring these drawings with a tablet. I honestly have no idea how some of you monsters make ponies that look like a screen capture. It's insane, and obviously, I'm not up to your level. But I tried, and the results were...I don't know.

What do you think? I think she looks a bit too artificial. Maybe it's because I'm not very good with GIMP or a tablet yet, but this took me FOREVER with less than optimal results, if I'm being completely honest. Do I continue on this path or go back to more freehand style?

Heh. Yes, Fluttershy would be the best Terra. I can just hear Terra speaking with her voice.

"Be your last hope? Um, well... Yes! Um, that is, if you really want me to be it..."

"I wouldn't want to presume. You all seem like such nice people. I'm sure you would make wonderful last hopes! If one of you wants to be it, please don't let me stop you. I'm sorry! I don't mean to be indecisive! I WILL do it! Yes! Absolutely! It's Fluttershy to the rescue...

...that is...if you think it's a good idea..."

I like the result of the path tool. Using thicker lines might help with the "artificial" look. The pony drawings that look like screen caps are most likely vector drawings (at least most of the ones I've seen like that are vector drawings) which use path tools. Free-handing can give more exact control over your lines, however (and zooming in does help just like JeemBare suggested). You can certainly combine the two methods if that suits your fancy. All-in-all though, you'll get better at either or both through practice. And that aside.... I LOVE Fluttershy as Terra! So adorable!!! *squee* I can't wait to see what you do with Pinkie Pie!! *more squee*

Thanks, Carm! Appreciate the input. And yes, Fluttershy is quite cute as Terra. I like her gloves.

And just wait till you see Pinkie Pie. I'm so excited about that one. She turned out amazing! XD

I think it looks pretty good either freehand or path tool.
I had the same probably drawing clean lines with my tablet but I think practice has helped.
I also find that zooming in helps with making smooth lines and then I can always clean them up later when I color it in.
A combination of freehand and path tool might also be a good choice if you find certain situations where one works better than the other.

Thanks! That's the method I've been doing so far. Will probably stick to it!
