I would've personally put her more on the left of the canvas, then she'd look "into" the painting. If I remember correctly there was a "rule" for that; there needs to be more space on the side where the character is looking at. Of course one can break it for stylistic choices, but right now it feels like the canvas is out of balance (left has most of the black, right has most of the white)
Other than that, great job! I like the simplicity of it all!

Thanks for the critique, as always! It's much appreciated.
Yes, you're right -- there's a common rule like that (I think it's laid out in Loomis... or was it "Framed Ink"?), but the exception to the rule would be (quite sure it's in Framed Ink...) that if you want the composition to feel constricted (more "moody" and depressed) you can limit the space around the character.
That said, it wasn't really the reason I set it up like that for this painting. There was very little planning or active thought going into it, but I did it just as a breather really. I tried moving it around after you mentioned it and while it does lose some of it's gloom, I agree that it's probably a good change overall.

No problem! I hope what little tid bits of knowledge I have can be helpful c:
You mentioned that moving it around made it lose some of the gloom, so was it your intention to make it more moody and depressed?

Anything helps!
For this one I didn't really have any intention, but just pushed the parts I liked and went with the flow without conciously thinking too much about it. It was a very crude series of "does this layer make the painting look better? yes/no" decisions. That's why I can't say that it was my intention to make it so dark, but now when it's done it seems more fitting.
