Description I've been dying to make a tutorial for a long time (it's all part of my personal drive to improve by trying different things). I wasn't sure what to make one on, though, since no one has ever asked me "how do you--?" and I wasn't sure what I should go over. After much thought, I settled on general improvement in drawing.

This being part one, it covers the general things that most tutorials tend to go over. The next few parts I have planned will go over things that are a little more specific, but you gotta go over the basics first, right? Let me know if there are any spelling/grammatical errors, if something is unclear, or if something I said seems ridiculously stupid to you--er, in a constructive way, please. I AM aware it's a giant wall of text, and I'm sorry for that, but I just couldn't see how else to get in everything I wanted to say.

Part two: [link coming when I finish it and have the opportunity to upload again...stupid dead internet]

Lol what? Why would this 4 year old tutorial stop you from doing anything?

Thank you for making this short tutorial on how to improve one's artwork.

I need help on improving so many things such as hands/feet, face/body poses, backgrounds, fur, some clothing... [that's why I never submit art on here xD]

Usually, I will make a "cool" digital artwork and leave up on a website for people to critique.. And they nit-pick tiny little things such as how the anatomy is off or how the shading isn't in the right tint.. and this makes me a little annoyed because they never point out the good things like the expression or clothing details. But, I will try to listen to criticism and convince myself that they only sound negative because they just want me to improve xD

I always wondered though if a piece of art can be improved indefinetely, how do you know when you're ready to submit it on DA?

Anyways, I'll be watching for your next tutorial soon!

I do think it's important for people who want to critique others to make sure to include something nice (it's pretty rare for a drawing to have no redeeming qualities )..so I'd hope people went about it kindly, but I personally only critique people who I think have potential, so maybe that's a happier way to look at it XD;

Oh, I wouldn't worry about it not being good enough yet--dA is a good way to get constructive criticism (and unless someone is submitting something they stole or traced, most people will consider it art regardless of the skill level). When I first started submitting to dA, my skill level was not.. good XD But now it's cool to be able to look back at the old stuff and see all the improvement ^^

Thanks for the reply!
I shall try to submit more art in the future because in the end it will only help me improve c:

There are a couple of places where you forgot to hit the space bar, or thought you did, and didn't. I know I do that all the time. As for it being a giant wall of text, yes, it is, but it's surprisingly readable in spite of that. Also, this made me realize that I NEVER draw backgrounds. I should work on that.

Ha, I'm starting to see that now, re-reading it (and some spelling errors I need to nuke--er, correct). I was pretty worried it wouldn't be readable, so that's very good news; thank you >u<

Oh, yes, backgrounds. Still working on that myself..
