I admit I was initially somewhat disappointed to learn this character was official, but having seen the trailer and knowing she's actually a key villain, I'm quite content! 
I'm even happier that the trailer seems to indicate Starlight will stay a unicorn! :3

The horn implies an edgy backstory and the scar as well, but she's a villain so it makes much more sense for her to have these kind of "snowflakey" additions. Just look at bond villains! Difference is with this being MLP, chances are she won't be evil all the way to the end so, I can see why some are triggered and skeptic. But I don't mind it regardless of how that turns out. I may or may not also be very biased because of Emily Blunt.

Great new design! Now WATCHING!
Visited Phoenix Comic Con Fanfest 2015. Attended panel on creating, naming supervillianess. The panel chose a weather manipulating cyborg dressed in purple and black armor. with a facial scar. I said that this human would work better as a My Little Pony...and apparently someone there took notes. They were stumped for a name until someone else suggested, "Tempest Shadow".

This is badass perfection. Exactly what I hope to see in the movie! You just made a lot of "dark and edgy" fanboys very happy!
And don't worry about all that complaining. That only comes from people who can't look over the edge of their plate and believe My Little Pony is not supposed to be dark because "cute ponies". Just currently I'm in talk with a person on EQD who is a diehard defender of the early generations and worships even G3 (!!!!) and he is dead set on it that dark and edgy writing is automatically bad writing.
Some in the fandom are just stuck in the earlier generations and have not yet understood the franchise has grown up and is now serious, both in its Slice of Slife episodes and in its dark episodes.
All the more important we have such a character now, I can't wait to see her in action!
