At a classified research facility on the island of Guam, under the auspices of the CIA, the discovery of thalassocryptids - mermaids - has prompted intense and vigorous scientific study. And rookie cryptozoologist Francine DeFazio watches with great intent as her research partner, marine biologist Marceline Fitzpatrick, dives in with the mermaids held in the facility's Aquarium 13. The mermaids appear, after much scientific analysis, to be social creatures, and quite easily startled, so diving in with scuba gear was out of the question. Quietly Francine marveled at the situation. Out of pure spite towards her wealthy, decadent ivory-tower parents, she took a course in cryptozoology and graduated with a Ph.D. Only after the discovery of the now aptly-named thalassocryptids did Francine's humorous ploy put her into a whole new walk of life.
