Description

Location: Bangkok Thailand

Aimlessly exploring the west bank of the Chao Phya River I stumbled across this rustic urban settlement. People living, across the sides of the railway tracks, shacks, huts and shops barely a few feet from the railway lines.  I had visited the famous Maeklong Railway market, but that was so tame as compared to this, at Maeklong, there is a hooter and a warning announcement for the arrival fo the train, the vendors quickly shut down shops and move behind safely demarcated lines and the train slowly shunts in.  Here the trains hurtle at breakneck speeds down the tracks, nobody really cares and the vortexes from the passing train make your hair stand on end.

“There’s something about arriving in new cities, wandering empty streets with no destination. I will never lose the love for the arriving, but I'm born to leave.”
Charlotte Eriksson, Empty Roads & Broken Bottles; in search for The Great Perhaps
