I'm sure people ask you all the time, but do have a generic mould you use for the clay and then add features or is each one sculptured individually? They are ACE!

Thank you so much! Each figure is hand sculpted from scratch. I don't use any molds and haven't taken any molds of what I have made. I appreicate your interest!

I am happy you ask and happy to answer. The hair is glued on one lock at a time. I am just very careful in the process so the glue does not show and it appears to be rooted but it is not. When I make a figure I do an armature first then cover it in clay and begin sculpting which can take up to 2 weeks as time allows. I sometimes do the head first and sometimes I do it last and attach it later. When the doll is finished and I am satisfied I put it in the oven and bake it and it gets hard. Then I paint it and dress it. The wig goes on last.
Thank you for your comments and do not hesitate to ask anything else!

Hi! and thank you again~ The armature is made of heavy wire covered in paper tape so the clay will grip the wire and not slip around as it is applied. Hope that helps~

I look forward to seeing what you made! That is very exciting! I use clay also but when I bake it, it gets hard. What brand of clay did you use? And I am happy to help if you have anymore questions~

oh~ thanks...
i guess im having a hard time making the body, it seems that i just want to make heads...err- only. >__<
my clay was not branded, it was something local~
i guess the clay im using is the type of clay that kids used to play with.
i tried baking it, but it gets soft, how many minutes do you have to bake it?
and..
thanks for the replies, you have been very encouraging, thank again!

I always make the head first. You can attach the head later to the body. When you make your armature just make sure you leave a long wire that would extend through the top of the head so you will have something to attach the head down on to later.
I bake for 80 minutes. When you first take the figure out of the oven it will be soft and break easily so you have to let it cool before you handle it. It gets very hard. Make sure you have the type of clay that bakes in the oven. There are several brands and you can mix some of them together to get a consitancy that you like and can work with. You can order the clay online if you can't buy it where you are locally.
Let me know if you need links where to order it.
Hope that helps!
