Description The daytime counterpart of Constellation that I painted for mom's xmas present this year.
And now... NO MORE MERMAIDS HOMG I'M DONE

I like how it came out. The colors look more together than I expected them to look- guess that's the magic of acrylic ink *wink*
Also, redoing lines after painting is definitely something that all my art needs. Finally getting into the habit of doing thissss
(Thanks Ariel : D )

Happy Holidays~

Cool! I love the scales in the tail.Thought first the lowest clouds looked bit like enormous soap bubble foam thingy. The colours under the water and also in the rock are beautiful and I love the red flower as well.

Ahh, thank you!
I completely agree with the part about the lower cloud... it doesn't seem very believable... I'm going to have to study clouds more ^^'

Same here, haven't really studied clouds seriously before ^^'. It's really interestin to see so aquarel-like painting done with acrylic inks. I've just bougth few inks to myself so this is inspiring.

I've never used Acrylic Inks before, what are they used for?

They are used for magic.

Well, I can tell that... XD Basically you use them and make... Amazing things like this! lol! I've just never used them before, are they somewhat like using water colors?

Hm, they're sorta like using watercolor? Except easier to layer. They dry faster and stay on the page more permanently. Also, they can make the colors richer easier...? Perhaps?

Ahhhhh, I remember a time long long ago when you said you'd do a daytime counterpart for funsies. Haha yeaaah. It's cool that you made it for your mom for Christmas. I love the colorssss; they're so pretty and earthy and natural and radical. I love the bunny and the fishes, too, kukuku. Bunnybro. And also, I supremely dig the way you drew the mermaid's tail. There's so much to look at. *n*

Redoing lines is definitely your greatest idea yet, and by "your" I mean "my" and I don't even understand why you were doing this sooner. Your linework is so strong. Your linework deserves this. HUUUUUUU

Lol, the tail is def my favorite part. It's so hard to draw believable profiles... I think that might be ruining this pic.
That, and the fact that I missed a golden opportunity to create a turquoise backlight on her figure! Wtf was I thinking. You wouldn't make these mistakes

Thaaaaaaaanks~ I really think that bit of advice is one of the most beneficial I've received. I like the ambiguity of washed out lines, but controlling the lines I redo can help push depth even further and it's really exciting in the art-nerdiest way. :'D

I used to think profiles were the easiest... wait, actually, I still think that, but I'm always so unsatisfied with them. They never look quite... something. Something is off with them. I can see that here, too, but the real problem is - how the fuck else would you draw it??
And oh man that would've been gorgeous, but I bet I wouldn't've thought of it, either.

Re-drawing lines is about the most exciting thing ever for me - seriously. Well but I guess now I don't ink before I paint. I use colored pencil after I paint. Drawing strong lines everywhere on top of everything... it's so fucking satisfying. So. Fucking. Satisfying.

Hmmmm. I think part of that might be that profiles are generally pretty... weird? To begin with? Like, if they were drawn accurately, it would still probably look wrong or at least less cool than an exaggerated one. *shrug*

Yup.

Oh, I love how you did the sky! That just stood out to me instantly.
It's a very nice picture anyone would be very happy to receive. (: Well, unless you don't like mermaids...

Thank you! The sky, like all things commendable in my art, was an accident. And I'm very glad it happened

Haha, I'm so happy the colors look somewhat together! I haven't painted in so long because of school; I was worried it would come out all jumbled. Thanks so much, and hope your Christmas is fantastic :3

Wow, that's a very lovely Christmas picture. Very nice looking mermaid, I really like how the tail and fins came out on her, the scales are very nice. Nice hair on her too.
