She had to have been standing still for many minutes.Scratching her head.
Staring into the light.
Not really understanding where it had come from.
When someone had pricked her on the shoulder.
“That light over there? Yeah, don’t go over there.”
“You probably find it very interesting, seeing as it should be pitch black at this time of day…”
“If you go over there you will find yourself trapped in a whirlpool.”
“I don’t care how good a swimmer you think you are. I have seen at least ten people fall into that trap in the last ten days”
“No I don’t know the source of the light either.”
All of this fired off in rapid shots.
As if there was an element of haste.
As if it all had to be said quickly.
… before something horrible happened.

She had examined the octopus with her eyes.
