Description This is a commission for she asked me to do 3 costume designs for her OC Jasper and she asked for a 70's-80's style influence. It was interesting researching these eras and coming up with designs influenced by their fashions.
Left to right:
Formal: Jasper's favourite colours are yellow, aqua and cobalt- all colours I have tried to incorporate in these designs. Japser likes showing off her legs so I did a short, rouched design for her formal wear. The skirt has hyacinths on it- which are her favourite flowers.

Work-wear: Jasper is a dancer so I chose leggings and a leotard with leg-warmers for this outfit. I put pineapples on her legs warmers as they are her favourite fruit and also it's a nod to Pineapple Dance Studios in London

Wedding: AlexandrianBreeze asked for a knee-length wedding dress with influences of Kate Middleton's wedding gown. (Hence the neckline) but I added a large 80's style bow at the back and flowing 70's style sleeves. I added the longer layer of lace for funsies! She is wearing diamonds, her favourite jewel and carrying a bouquet of hyacinths.

oh my god oh my god, i love it like peanuts and glitter and candy!!!!! Pppperfect!! Her workwear is exactly what it should be, funky, bright and flirty, and my goodness the pineapples!!! Pineapple Dance Studios, googling it- this is great research stuff for her backstory! Oh, those colours and shapes! The backgrounds- what a brilliantly inspired twist! it's like Duran Duran's Rio as an artwork! Or Picasso as fashion!! this historical part of me is going- "I love how you've woven together motifs and trends from the 70s and 80s and given them a contemporary spin." ...but then the girly side takes over:  gosh, they're all so pretty and ravishing, I don't know which one is my favourite!  But the wedding dress- bang out of this world!! You got the colour spot on, that's exactly it!! that gauzy, silvery lavendery blue- my favourite colour in the whole wide world (there, the secret's out ). And you matched it with the hyacinths!! (perfectly drawn, by the way). The lace over the knee length gown, perfect, perfect, perfect (I'm saying perfect too much, but seriously, it is!) I want to design my wedding dress ala Jasper now And that seductive, shimmering blue of the formal wear, pure fashion ecstasy! Her hair is gorgeous, simply stunning in this one, very Yasmin You've captured the mystery in her eyes, which is touching to see, and the attitude in her pose is 100% Jasper, well done!! I wish I could wear this in public, it's so eclectic yet so modern- you have a great future ahead of as a world class designer, keep it up! Thank you very much for this, as Jasper is still a nascent character with no real plot line it means alot to me and it was very brave of you to create this project. God bless!

lol! I'm so thrilled you like these designs! I have to admit, I loved creating the backgrounds, something simple but very retro! The pineapple leg-warmers are a particular favourite of mine The wedding dress will I think, be one of my all time favourite designs as it turned out even better than I thought it would! I am looking forward to learning more about Jasper as your gallery grows

I sent the pictures off yesterday and I have to apologise for the awful wrapping skills- I've always been hopeless, but the cardboard envelope was the only thing I could find which I thought wouldn't bend the artwork- let me know when you've got it!

Elie Saab would kill for that wedding dress!!!

And seriously, with the stuff he's turning out now...urgghh. Stick with the classics, man, is what I want to tell him. (yes, because looking at wedding dresses is awesome and acceptable. Full flowery stop.)

You're wrapping skills are actually quite commendable comparing to mine- I tend to just grab the nearest self-obliging male at the post office and hope they get the message. "Oh but those scissors are soo sharp!! Help, somebody help!"

Can't wait!! This is my favourite commission always a breeze doing art with you

lol- what was made in the 80s should stay in the 80s eh? Yes, not the best time for fashion, but a lot of fun to draw nonetheless!

Well unfortunately for us, fashion tends to do circuits, one day all that stuff might come back in trend and we'll all be subjected to it! (I had some leg warmers!  My grandma made them, they had bumble bees on them!) Obviously I was  only a toddler so not in the grip of chic fashion

ooo! Bumble-bee leg warms sound epic!! I would probably only wear them in private though. I shudder at the 80's baby rompers my mum used to dress me in as a baby *shudders and holds out a cross and holy water*

Sleyf In reply to InkyRose [2013-10-17 17:57:28 +0000 UTC]

Of course lol, in private you can wear whatever unco-ordinated clothing you like! My home clothes are like...pyjama bottoms with...non-matching tops! I don't care!

but you were a baby, no one was judging your adorableness lol, romper suits are cute regardless, they should make adult sized ones, to bum around in
