There are currently two popular anime about people being trapped in video games. Sword Art Online, and Log Horizon. SAO just started it's 3rd season, known as Sword Art Online II, and Log Horizon is supposed to start it's next season in the Fall. They are both on Crunchyroll, I prefer SAO to Log Horizon, though there are many who differ in their opinion. I do recommend them both, however.

Eeeeh..... I like it a lot, but as far as anime goes, I'd probably give it around a 3.5-4 out of 5 stars. Slightly above average and well worth my time, but not necessarily excellent.

Magnolia Online isn't about people trapped in an MMORPG game.

Also, I prefer Log Horizon. Kirito is getting too annoying for me, I want to punch him in the face. I prefer a more humble main character, who doesn't REQUIRE ALL GIRLS to go to him. Shiro is a bro, in the sense that he doesn't just suck up all the girls into a harem for HIMSELF, whereas Kirito has to have all the girls, because the writer is insecure.

Log Horizon always had a low budget, but you should know, the Sword Art Online writer ripped off Log Horizon.

This is new news to me. Oddly enough, despite ripping it off, I've always thought the two were different enough that it was okay. Plus I thought the execution of the first season of SAO was better than LH, but like you said SAO had a bigger budget. Also, I'm not entirely against the idea of someone taking someone else's idea and making their own story. Most shows, movies, etc... are unoriginal scripts, just shaped in a specific way by their writer. It's not like Log Horizon was the first video-game based story either. .Hack came out around a decade earlier, and I haven't seen anyone say that LH or SAO ripped off that idea before. Anyway, I don't really judge an anime based off the source. I judge it based off the execution. Like I said, I think SAO started better, but I keep thinking LH will continue to get/be better as things go on.

The reason you haven't seen anyone saying that, is because the concept SAO ripped off wasn't just about a story within an MMORPG, it's about all the players suddenly being stuck in the world of the MMORPG.

As a story, Log Horizon, I think is much better. And there's one reason for that. Kirito.

You can tell Kirito is a self-insert by the author, because no girl in the entire story is allowed to have any other love interest than him, even after he gets married. Even his little sister has to have a crush on him. Klein being single is left to comedic effect, and none of the girls ever have any conversations that isn't about how amazing Kirito is.

Kirito randomly becomes a tech genius, Kirito is randomly the BEST GUY ON THE SERVER AT REACTIONARY REFLEXES, Kirito gets SUPER SPECIAL POWER, the creator of the game sees something SPECIAL THAT ONLY KIRITO HAS.

Every single villain in the entire story are just evil for the sake of being evil. They are all perverts, who just wants what Kirito has, and in the end they're brutally punished. Kirito is even SO SPECIAL that the Government keeps pestering him to do something for them, which realistically a big government like the Japanese, should have some tech geniuses that could beat an 18 year old boy. Kirito is constantly referred to as a tactician because it sounds cool, but he has absolutely no tactics other than "SLASH FASTER!!!"

Now, let's look at something like Log Horizon.

The main character, Shiro, unlike Kirito, actually loves sticking with his friends (and not just girls either,) he's the sort of guy who wouldn't abandon his friends just to be a "cool loner," like Kirito tries to be. He's a true tactician, and doesn't just play a strong combat character because it's "cool", he does it to support his friends, and in the end, everyone around him are much stronger because he's around.

In Log Horizon, Shiro has a love interest, and so does all of his friends. The writer isn't insecure about love, and he allows girls to like other guys than the main character. Makes the story much more interesting, because it's not just about all the girls loving Shiro, it's about all the different characters too.

Shiro doesn't have all the answers, and he can't do everything alone. He knows that, and he works to make sure everyone has a good time, whereas Kirito just abandons his friends because it's more cool to be a loner.

I could literally tell the second that one guy stepped into the Hospital in the 2nd season, that he was a villain. You know why? Because he's a love rival. All love rivals have to be evil, and perverted, and SCUM. That's how the author treats this world. He has made some sort of alternate reality where HE (Kirito) is soooo clever, and sooooo strong, and sooooo brave, that all the girls love him.

And you might say this is a normal theme in Anime, and I would agree with you, but there are Anime like Log Horizon that have so much more respect towards the readers, and doesn't just all make it about how super special the main character is.

So I guess it can all be summed up like this;

Kirito is a special, genius, tactician, who all the girls love because; The author says so.
Shiro is a special, genius, tactician, who a few girls love because; He several times displays extreme intelligence, and knows the world isn't just about him, and uses that fact to everyones advantage. Team work. He's also charming, but not perfect, whereas Kirito is just portrayed as perfect with no flaws, other than flaws that make him "cool."

You basically summed up one of the main reasons why the more I watch SAO the more I like LH more. I didn't mind that Kirito was specifically good at SAO. He was a beta tester for the game, and he did get farther than anyone else. There is usually a few players that excel in mmorpgs, it's okay for him to be one. But then ALO comes around, and he gets in there and magically keeps all his awesome stats, but becomes a master of the flying in no time, and ends up being OP in that game too. Then GGO and he just transfers his ultimate character over (Which made no sense, because he said he was going to reset his character stats at the end of ALO which was less than a year prior, and it took him literally 2 full years in the game to get his high stats) but he is still apparently super OP in GGO as well. Basically the write made him invincible in game.  May as well just typed in a God Mode cheat.

I am also annoyed how they basically forgot any other male character and had all the women love Kirito. I dunno how he magically became techy genius super guru overnight either. That makes no sense unless he was able to devote as much time as he formerly did while living in SAO to his technological learning, which is not possible considering everything else he is continuously involved in.

So yeah. Kirito is basically my biggest problem with SAO, and the more I watch it the more I realize how shallow of a character he was written as.
