Description A day spent in Manhattan simply shooting Architecture .

5 images from -2 to + 2

I shot most of my images that day at f22 which introduced less than stellar images . I hated to just dump the images but tried to make something out of it anyway . So here is the result of one from many that day .

Great perspective!

Why did f22 cause a problem?

Love the angle, you did well on this one, the colors are good and the clouds are great. Nice.

Thank you for the great comment . First off , Based on what one of the Pioneers of HDR (Trey) stated in his 10 things not to do was "Grey Skies" I personally like it , It give the images Character and depth and creates intensity . So I basically mask the skies . So not to get any flack from HDR police . Problem how I mask skies , if I airbrush the skies with a blue , it comes out purple over the grays so its a combination of colors trying to get the right mix.

I like to keep my images looking real and want to keep the image as processed .The sky here is too much for me but happy you like it . I shot at F22 on this particular day for Sharpness (yes day , it was cloudy though ) but thats an HDR no no there is noise beyond understanding after tonemapping the image . So I am still trying other techniques for different results as most Trial and Error .lol

I've learned a lot just by doing and reading, the one thing that frustrates me on cloudy days is the was color seems to wash out which didn't seem to happen with yours. Noise seems more of a problem to me when I try the false HDR's like with Topaz which made me decide to stick to the true multiple image process. You did a great post processing job with the shot, the dark of the clouds really did it for me but I like cloudy days anyway. I've still got a lot to learn with masking, I've watched tutorials and read a bit about layers and masking but it still befuddles me although i've had some success working on a photo of my daughter and smoothing out her skin...
