While I've only seen maybe half the series (didn't catch the original run I'm sorry to say) I think Evo was Jean's best outing in animation, and probably the best take on her relationship with Cyclops as well. The 90s version of Jean got knocked around too easily (I can only assume that the writers just didn't have a good feel for how to make her telekinesis look good in animation when compared Storm with her lightning bolts, Rogue's flying brick routine and even Jubilee's light shows - I mean when Jubilee, who I have nothing against, gets better showcasing over a 5 year run than one of your most iconic X-heroines you know something's wrong), and W&TXM's Jean was too much of a blank, which sadly is probably how most writers in the industry view her (and a waste of the always awesome Jennifer Hale - seriously, they could have just had Kari Wahlgren, Emma Frost's VA, play Jean using her regular voice & gotten the same results for the 5 or 6 lines Jean actually spoke) and while a 2nd season might have given her some decent action sequences I seriously doubt her characterization would have flourished, not when the show's primary purpose was to drool all over Wolverine (AKA: Saint Wolver-Clops) and his shiny claws of justice.
Sorry about the rant. W&TXM just really rubbed me the wrong way; I suppose one silver lining was that if it hadn't been for that series I would never have taken a look at Evo by way of DVDs, etc.

I agree with your appreciation of Evo Jean. I personally couldn't stand to watch the old X-Men cartoon

To each their own - I grew up with the 90s series so I still have a soft spot for that. W&TXM was like watching a car crash in slow motion - you don't want to look yet you can't look away either. Wolverine was a full on Canon Sue, Cyclops's history & arc was completely botched (and Nolan North was badly miscast in the role), most of the other X-Men were flat non-entities who just weren't worth caring about (much like the JLA on Young Justice, though that show was considerably better even with another miscasting for Mr. North as Superman, with a miscast Phil LaMarr as Aquaman to boot), and the DOF/Dark Phoenix mash up wasn't that interesting. For a show that was supposed unlike any X-series we'd ever seen before it had some pretty lame rehashes of old material (I'm probably in the minority here but I always thought Sebastian Shaw and the Hellfire Club mooks were lame villains regardless of who wrote them).
But that's just me. The important thing is Evo Jean = awesomeness.
