Decided to stick with Sombra's story for a while or at least to a specific point.
And I also decided instead to make something like a 'comic', I just summarize this part of the story in one drawing.

As it was told at the end in the previous work, 'fragment' Sombra told Sombra that the reason behind Noche's nightmares and illness is Rabia. Noche is technically half umbrum, telepathically Rabia managed to get in contact with the filly, and she tormented her, hoping her umbrum side takes over and she could use her to free the umbrums.
Founding out about this Sombra and Hope immediately wanted to bring Noche to the princesses, but it seems it was to late. Their daughter right before their eyes started to take on a form similar to an umbrum. The small filly started to loose her will to fight off Rabia.
And unlike last time with Sombra, Hope's magic wasn't powerful enough to stop it.
Sombra realized there maybe only one way to save his daughter and fight off Rabia. But he knew he couldn't do that as a pony. So he allowed his hatred of Rabia and himself to take him over, shedding of the pony form the princesses gave her and become an umbrum again. He used his umbrum dark magic to fight of Rabia, weakening her extremely and severing the connection she had with Noche.
In the end, while Rabia was gone and the torment was over, Noche still ended up being close to a umbrum than a pony, and who knew what else changed in her. And Sombra lost his pony self.
This exactly what 'fragment' Sombra hoped. The reason why he waited with Rabia's reveal, because he hoped Sombra's anger would turn him back into an umbrum and 'fragment' Sombra would be able to join with his body again. However, much to his annoyance, that didn't happen. Because while Sombra is an umbrum, he is still a pony at heart, not a creature that wants to spread hatred and fear.

Hopefully, it's somewhat noticeable that 'fragment' Sombra and Rabia see through, so they are not really there.
Month ago I actually posted a drawing of my headcanon design of Sombra's umbrum form. Well, it was pretty much created for this moment.
There's one (possible two) more drawing and I will probably let Sombra's part in the story rest for a while.
