Yay! My first drawing done!
This isn't my OC, just to let you know.
This is Sorano in her Akatsuki outfit [minus the cloak, hat and ring], she's pretty... *jealous* Nah, she really is a cool, kick-ass OC. Oh, I also added a scroll-holder thingy on her left leg for her puppet summons and I also gave her some arm guards. Gosh, I get carried away. I hope it still looks like Sorano-chan. xP
Everytime I draw a hand, I should be thrown in a dungeon, but I also think the scanner can take part of the blame too. I may edit this in Paint, or maybe even another programme if I can find a good one.
I hope it's okay, if anything needs changing, feel free to tell me.

I actually find Shonen easier to draw than Shojo. You could always compare the differences in Naruto [shonen] and something like Mew Mew Power [shojo] I think the most difference is the eyes. Bodies don't really change much unless it's a male since males always look skinny in shojo but a bit more meaty in shonen. Man meat, hehe...

True, true...I would always think the face shape and hair are other factors too...but then again, Death Note characters have detailed hair at times too... >.>

Yes, good point! Death Note does look kind of Shojo-ish, I didn't notice that. I like Death Note, but it made me cry, I like Matsuda and the Whammy kids the best. Oh and Misa is just as annoying as Sakura.
I bet Zetsu would love Death Note, he pretty much has an "all-you-can-eat" with all the dead corpses lying around!

Matsuda has so few fangirls...unfortunately, I'm one of the few, bahahah! xD
I'd want to say that it's because Death Note, unlike most manga, has two people behind it. One does the artwork (Obata), while the other works on the story (Ohba) either way, it still was a good mini-seires *nods* (I say "mini" because it was only 12 books and so many episodes.)
I've always thought that...plus the fact that Kisame and Ryuk would have a few things in common (possibly even be BROTHERS...!

Matsuda is loveable with his cute puppy face, he's impossible to hate! Even if he is kinda dumb... Even though Misa is similar to Matsuda, I hate Misa and her speaky Mickey Mouse voice, she doesn't really think either. She wears cool clothes though.
Matt and Mello are epic... I LOVE Matt's clothes. Gotta love L too! ^^
Kisame and Ryuk are similar, they have a similar voice, smile and personality. I always thought Madara Uchiha and Teru Mikami look very similar.

FFFFF...!! THEY DOO!!! I never noticed that...but I dont think Madara would spit about screaming "Delete" as a flowery pink backround consumes him .__.
I love Matt...mainly in the manga (Because he gets more time to develop a personality in the manga xDD) Mello's pants....are tighter than mine...
L's toes creeped me out (even though I can do the same thing with them xD) He always reminded me of a lizard....but Near has the most...lizard-ness.
Misa's voice is worse in the actual Japanese anime....my ears bled at the decibels. (My piccolo cant even reach that high of a pitch...!) D8
Matsuda's so niaeve...I made him my all time favorite when he spazzed out in the end though. He's one of the few characters that would actually interrupt the bad guy in mid-glory. xD

Gotta love Mello, his chocolate and his tight leather clothing, he looked funny as a kid. Matt is awesome and epic... I cried when he died. 
Matsuda really redeemed himself in the end. He kicked Light's/Raito's ass, Light's/Raito's laugh is SCARY. Yay for Matsuda and Ryuk for shutting him up. I like also like Matsuda because he's just himself and not a supirior intellect like everyone else. Matsuda is by far the most human of all characters.
I hate Misa and that Takada girl. Why are most of the females in Death Note either annoying, arrogant or kill the cool people? The only females I thought were okay were Halle Lidner and Naomi Misora.

Pah, there's a conspiracy going on about how most japanese animes are sexist and give most women a bad name. For Death Note they shown the idocy of females when they're consumed with "getting their man." Eh, what can we do?
That's why I love Matsuda. When he brought up the fact that maybe 'Kira' actually thinks he's not doing anything wrong for the world, made me smile. Most of the time, any series are so segregated with their good/evil relationship when in all reality, people should identify with both sides' motives and ideas. C:
That he did...when Mello had to monitor Misa on video, Matt was complaining that he only got to listen to the voices (kind of like Matsuda when they had to get rid of the video when Light and Takada had their "meetings" hurrhurr~) His comment was something like, "Aw, Mello, cant we trade? You at least get to watch a cute girl...! I get the boring job! D:"
Yaoi ANYWHERE is abused, sorry to say...LightxL is just wildly popular because of how they acted in the series was just BEGGING for a pairing! xD
Mello's face in manga when he heard that L was dead was (sorry to say) priceless. Death Note and it's drama... x,DD
Oh, but you know, Hidan's crazy laugh is dangerously close to Light's laugh....and ONE of Light's laughs is dangerously close to Mello's laugh...maybe they all go to the same trainer for laughing classes... >.>

I guess that's why I love OCs. They may have a love interest, but they're not clingy and annoying like Misa or Sakura.
I still think Light/Raito has a scarier laugh due to the glowy red eyes and facial expression. I don't think I could ever be put off Hidan, him and his cocky smirk just always make my day.
Yes, I think the most abused yaoi pairs of all time are: LightxL, MattxMello, SasuxNaru, SasoxDei, KakuxHida, AxelxRoxas and anything involving Hetelia. I have no problem with gay people, it's just the crazy yaoi fans who shove all the smutty yaoi art/fics in your face and think hetro-pairings/females are wrong. Gosh, if Katana were a canon character the mad KakuHida fan-girls would absolutely hate her. Not all yaoi fans are bad though, since I have a lot of friends on Quizilla who like yaoi.

I'm sure Katana would be hated as much as the canon girls in Naruto...just because she's female and has a love interest. I'm neutral with...any pairing really. Yaoi, yuri and any other pairing form just....I dont care for any of them, honestly.

Poor Katana, lol. But it's true, she'd be hated for being the cock-block of KakuHida. I don't think she's much of a Mary-Sue either, atleast I hope not. Even Konan gets hated for being a yaoi ruiner or being the only girl in the Akatsuki. I wish anime/manga females had some fight in them, Anko and Temari are good examples though.
I have pairings I love and pairings I dislike. I only dislike characters I find annoying, not because of pairings.

I always thought my drawings were messy and sketchy. I was too scared to use a fine liner in case I screw up.

Yeah, bases are very useful. I know it's not 100% your work but it gives you a chance to look at and study human anatomy, I think it helps improve that knowledge or even pick up a new anime style you like.
I only used a base if it's a cool but complicated pose or guys, I'm terrible at drawing guys for some reason. The only guy I could draw is Chris Crocker because he looks like a girl. XD
