Description

10 years of Bionicle vibes series

A breath of fresh air. 2006 was imo the most radical year, with the graffiti grunge style for the super eccentric Piraka. With the Mata Nui saga And Metru Nui saga being so heavy on tradition, virtues and mythology the piraka, being an antagonistic set-line yet more character than just mere "evil monster" felt revolutionary with their "F*ck the police!" attitude. The toa Inika, with their incredibly articulate and and elemental bodies, then arriving to slap the Piraka in the face, made for one exciting year and the beginning of a rapidly changing time in Bionicle.

It was the most "rad" year to me. I love the Grunge piraka aesthetic so much.

The aesthetic was definitely on point. But also the sets were fucking awesome. Vezon and Fenrakk, light up eyes on the Piraka, then flashing light weapons for the Toa? The Kardas Dragon was like the best combiner model ever! Stewart Seygar as the artist for the comic, making everything much edgier and dark? Yeah This was Bionicle's Teenage goth phase, and I still love it for that.
