I was encouraged to post my response to some comments in this description, so here goes:
Thank you everyone. So many positive responses.
As for a little insight into the making of this:
I made the story up as I went. I had no idea who I was going to have him fight when I started it- I just wanted to do a story about a character that wasn't your typical Australian steriotype.
As mentioned the title comes from the name given to Aboriginal's by both black and white people. I don't see why it would be considered offensive. The character is meant to be a bit of an enigma, so giving him a real name didn't seem appropriate.
The character is one I have worked on for a while, but never gotten around to doing anything with him. I posted some concept art here: [link]
I'd love to do a Goon style comic with this character.

I have no idea why black fella would be offensive. Blacks called themselves that more than whites, and it was pretty mucht the general term for 'hey you, person' when I lived on a mission.

This is great. Dunno why everyone's getting so bent out of shape. I live in a community that's made up of a lot of Aboriginals... they're cool with us calling them black fella's, and they call us white fella's... I mean, really. Americans and others take it all too seriously. They need to chill out and realise that certain cultures have certain ways of communicating, yeah?

Just because they use archaic language to refer to themselves there, does not necessarily make it p.c. here. The simplistic terminology used in the title sounds offensive, regardless of its origins.
It's not the 1930's.

We are showing respect for our people by using the term for which they refer to themselves.
It is a case of when in Rome. This is a touch of Australia about Australia's indigenous community and to change it would be to encourage willful ignorance about our people.
There is a wider world out there and it would probably be more pc to learn about other cultures sooner than condemn another race for their ways because it is not yours.

Then the title and the message of the deviation are rather ambiguous.
I honestly couldn't tell what the tone of this work was supposed to be.
And before you start, how did you put it-?, "condemning the ways of another race",
I actually viewed the artist's profile page before I posted my comment and the information was wanting. Because of that, it was fairly easy to formulate a disparaging impression from the work.
I mean, come on.
What reaction are you honestly expecting to get?
I, myself, happen to be an African American and I viewed the work from within that context.
The title, combined with the gross simplification of indigenous people was offensive to me, in that light.
It is equally wrong to assume that everyone will react to a work in the same way.
If you introduce something as dubious as this and fail to explain it, people are perfectly justified to form their own opinions from within their own cultural context.
Getting angry about said reactions after the fact is unfair and equally ignorant.

I am not in the least bit angry. This appears to be how you are feeling. I was not attempting to be confrontational just point out that different societies have different ways and respect should be given.
The Artist did in fact have his country of origin under his name. I think it is a sad indictment on society today that people err on the side of the negative automatically.

For it to be racist, it's got to be discriminatory or insulting based on race. Simply calling someone black is nowhere near that.
