A (not-so) quick jump back into ultra-realism... and once again I wish the scanner would do justice to Miyavi's beauty, but alas, no such luck. Materials: blending stump, mechanical pencil 2HB, paper. Took about 7 hours with a lot of breaks and stuff due to lack of concentration and bad lighting in the room. He's so lovely. ^_^Edit: Retouched a little on Photoshop so that it looks better, and I also made the leg a little thicker since it was waaay too skinny before.

it's a beautiful portrait, really. i can't give you any real "critiqual" comment on it, except that it'd probably look even better if you smoothed out the shade lines on the shadowy part of his face. but all in all i love what you've done.
and also, do you think you could show me the original picture? i don't think i've ever seen it...

okay! you asked for advanced critique, so here goes!
first of all, this is a lovely rendering, there are some small problems, but overrall it doesnt affect the feel of the picture. however, for 'ultra-realism' i would suggest erasing those lines you used around his arms to define them. add a background, use shadowing to define them, dont use lines. i know its hard to find shading when there is none, but your best bet is to take the background, if existant, and use it well. i understand a lot of times in photos there are no definitions, in that case, dont make them up! realism from a photo, using heavy reliance on a photo, would absolutely require no imagination, lol. anyway! i would also soften some of your pencil strokes to get nice even shadowing. soften the lighting on his black shirt, subtle shadowing i should think would look more realistic, except for around the edges because its such a bright light. the hand looks pretty good, a bit more detail all around would really add to it. and dont neglect the bracelet! jewelry is a great oporunity to add realism to a piece!!!!!!
once again i stress the no outline thing....real people have no lines defining where they end and where the world begins.

Brilliant details, excellent subject matter. I am most impressed by the lighting scheme. It seems like the partifular way the light falls on him, and the added difficulty of the pose, that this would be quite a task. 7 hours, you say? I am damn impressed.
Brilliant piece. Kudos to you. And yes, it looks quite real -- I had to double check to make sure it was pencil and not photo manipulation.

Utterly lovely! It looks near perfect. My only critique would be that the right arm looks a tad odd. Like it should be blended a bit more. But it is so beautiful! I love the style.
