Of course. They are all pathetically horrible and most of them stopped existing the second I saw them (YAY DELETE!).
It always looks washed out, and the light frequently seems to refract all over the picture... plus you can make colors soooo bright! Do you use a special camera? I'm kinda stuck with one little digital and one ancient thing that only takes film photos, though it does that very well (in black-and-white).

You need a sunset with nice soft light which brings a lot of color with it. That usually requires semi-transparent clouds. It doesn't happen that often. Under those conditions of soft light, you can get nice looking images right out of the camera.
I post process most of my shots heavily. Lately, it's all HDR - that helps you get the saturation by avoiding the limitation of camera sensors with a limited dynamic range.

These are the sunsets I'm trying to photograph. I suppose it'd be better if they'd let me go down to the beach... but my pictures are never even this nice.

3 of them look like good sunsets. You MUST go down to the beach. The water lights up with the evening light.

I know... the trouble is, this is a camp... with rules... one of which is DEFINITELY "Don't go to the beach without a counselor".
Of course, I will BE a counselor, and soon too... hmm... *idea time*

All I can say is, it's nice when you grow up and do whatever the hell you like, whenever you like, however you like
Still, I bet you could find a sympathetic one (possibly someone who likes sunsets) to go enjoy check it out.

Red and purple sunsets are the best. It's like the sky is on fire!
And woah, I had to take a second glance at the beach there. I almost thought the view was from much higher and the rocks were buildings!
