Pacific Rim is so awesome. not only is it a wonderful tribute to Japanese monster movies and mecha anime, its also the best "independence Day" remake. that ending was strikingly similar, just shy of giving them a "virus". its good fun so go see it...like several times cause i want sequel. GO RANGERS, GO!!!also ill be attending comic-con and ill be sitting in the table next to the hotdog stand...oh who am kidding. ill be probably liying dead tire on the floor (as usual). see you there XD

The best part is that you just know that on the other side of the Rift, the Anteverse natives are having the exact same argument as described by dragonkid11 on Spacebattles forum .

Personally Pacific Rim was a million times better than Independence Day.
I could stay all day listing my reasons, but I'll just say, for example, because of the characters. Those two nerdy guys, Newton and Gottlieb... Those two alone were more memorable, had more depth and personality and I cared more about them than I did with ANYONE in Independence Day.

Still, The Jeagers were the best option, How would we destroy the breach? Throwing an Atomic Bomb on it wouldn't do anything, That's explained in the movie.. We litterly NEED the Jeagers lol

I do study engineering and I pointed out all the logic (and scientific) flaws in the movie while I was watching it.
IN the end, my friends rocket punched me in the face! xD

unfortunately as the movie progressed, so did the Kaiju. Weapons that would've been effective now would only piss off later ones. Thicker hide, wings, and they got bigger.

I feel like they tried to explain the reason as to why they didn't just use nukes in the extended universe. Β According to that, it took at least two nukes to kill one kaiju, so just nuking them wasn't considered particularly viable. Β And I'm glad it wasn't, because then we wouldn't have such an awesome movie.

I definitely like the movie but I think it could have been better by not killing off half the robots in the first fight.

Most of the ideas came from Japanese robot fights and the current trend is to kill a lot of allies (because war is hell). Like what happened in Mazinger new movies and Getter Robo new series.Β

Makes sense, but the explanation for why the robots dying drives me crazy. The thing I keep hearing is that Crimson Typhoon died (which basically signaled that things were heading south) because it didn't expect the giant alien to have an additional appendage it would use for fighting (the tail). I don't know why this annoys me so much, but it does, just because it seems like a silly excuse to just start killing them off. I think it would have made more sense if there were maybe two more kaiju, and Crimson Typhoon and Cherno Alpha manage to kill the other two quickly but then they died.

I know it's late, but the swords are only used as last resorts. Kaiju blood is toxic to the environment, and plasma cannons were alot more effective as it cauterized the wound at the same time, preventing the blood flow.

One thing I am worried about is Pacific Rim and Godzilla are both made or being remade by the same company. I hope they don't cross the two. I honestly don't see how it will work even though it might be cool.

I like what "Everything Wrong With" said. Why not just mount hundreds of those plasma cannons over the rift rigged with motions sensors?

They built mechs that could survive the pressure that deep. Mechs have doors and joints and an assload of moving parts. Cannons would be far more pressure resistant, and wouldn't even need to be built under the sea. Build them up top, assemble them, drop them from the surface, then send some guys down to put them in the right places.

But then you have the problem reloading them and maintaining them. Also the Kaiju are far maneuverable under water and the plasma cannon only seemed effective at point blank range.

That and the aliens creating them will eventually make a Kaiju that is resistant to plasma cannons. And maybe en masse.

I know why they couldn't make better weapons. Because the politicians put everything into a large wall surrounding the Pacific. Whence why they couldn't make more Jaegers or make better weapons.

Apparently, they wanted a weapon that wouldn't do massive damage the city and citizens, as nukes and missiles were doing more harm than the Kaiju were.

I've thought about using nukes in this movie and...I thought of several reasons why they wouldn't. One: While we know that more and more Kajiu were going to keep coming they didn't. But that means we know that eventually the nukes wouldn't work because too many would be coming at once.Β
Two: A cat 5 took a nuke, a high yield nuke I remind you, to the face. And though wounded lived. So while Cat 1's and 2's and possibly 3's would be harmed by nukes we'd have to keep upping the ante which brings me to reason 3
Three: Built up radiation in the sea. Over time the continuous radiation from the nukes would build up and start to contaminate the ocean. Not to mention the sheer logistics of continually supplying nuclear weapons. Sure we'd have a stockpile set up and ready at the beginning. But that would eventually start to dwindle if I'm wrong about how effective the nukes are.Β
As for the better missiles and laser tech? ....Okay you got me there I got no defense for that. Several other's have mentioned bigger and badder planes and such that does exist that they didn't see used. But...well...it's just not as cool as punching a monster in the face is it?Β
