Description This is a painting of my character from my recently joined D&d game. When I first started gaming way back when, it was always my favorite thing. First creating and then drawing my character. I enjoyed (still do) creating characters even more than playing them. I guess, doing what I do for a living is kind of a perfect fit! Anyhoo. Introducing, Gehko Bindus the thief extraordinaire. He's a halfling. Like hobbits, I suppose. A hardcore pipe smoker, and smooth talking, fast thinking, gold purse's worst nightmare. He has an ironic penchant for the tallfolks' women, considering he's only pushing 3'3". I originally created him thinking he'd be a close combat type guy using a sickle and a dagger. But it turns out halflings and rogues are mega-pussies. So I spend a lot of time in the shadows wangchung-ing baddies with a crossbow. It wouldn't be so bad, but fighters can be such self-important pricks when it comes to the kill ratio. Experience whores. HA!

This is spectacular. I like how you've captured the semi-smug/crafty look in the character's posture and facial expression. I also tend to agree with `thundercake on the coin fiddling; I don't know how you did it. A few questions that I do have for you would be these: did you use any programs for the shading/ colouring? And did you use anything to base your picture off from? All in all, this picture describes to me what kind of a person he is. Keep going with the work; I would like to see more art like this.

He is a scary-lookin' little badass!

Of course, halflings don't have to be pussies. I mean, in most editions of D&D they have those resistances to fear.

This is great work you've done; reminds me of the awesome Icewind Dale portraits. Kudos!

OMG he's so badass looking! Looks like he might sit in the shadows of a joint and gamble

Nice too bad it doesn't fit that well. I play as a gorgon female rouge who duel wields shortswords. I can petrify my enemy's and kill them stealthy!

But you know its the fun of finding a combination that works.

I've always problems when I must draw halflings (or gnomes) for my players, due to their proportions...
Sorry for bad english!

This is fantastic. A rogue of the uh... shorter persuation is something I've been itching to play, I havent quite managed to pull it off yet and my friends campaign hasn't got much small sized creatures kicking around...

Save Redcaps. Scary buggers.

Easily the toughest looking halfling I've ever seen!
Hang in there for that extra sneak attack damage.

I love this painting, has to be one of my favorites on DA. From the clothing to the expression to the subtle things like the coin in his hand make this piece work so well.

... one can only wonder where my wallet has gotten to now...

That's great, it must be very smart, I guess. I understand that the thieves are not so good on melee combat, but they are quite skilled and tend to ambush their enemies with ease. Of course they are one of the best stealing and looking for information.

I use a Swashbuckler. Someday I can draw it. His name is Zacarias is human.

He's a mischievous little fella and no mistake. God I Love him Your style here is reminding me of the amazing character designs in Icewind Dale. Frickin loved that game and the design work made it for me. Had a thief character in it called Neblin. This IS Neblin!!! The backstabbing, trap disarming, lock picking, handsome, hunk of halfling himself!!! Damn!!!

Just how much is quite expensive? I'm dead curious now.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IzzyMedrano In reply to Sweet-Orb-Mace [2009-03-11 20:15:53 +0000 UTC]

In the realm of $1500 to $3000 US. I know most DA peeps aren't looking to spend that much on art. Hahaha, but I make more than that just painting for professional gigs, so I can't justify painting for the awesome people on here, for fifty or sixty a pop. Ya know?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sweet-Orb-Mace In reply to IzzyMedrano [2009-03-15 23:36:36 +0000 UTC]

My, that is quite expensive. The budget for arts for the various monster manuals/splatbooks must be gigantic. (How much is that in expired zimbabwean dollars, by the way?)

I'll contact you with a view to comission once I own a few small countries, maybe before .

I love the details like the highlights on the maille and everything, but that you can still have a very quick-looking painterly quality in the hair and what not. Brilliant.

memod [2008-09-02 02:15:48 +0000 UTC]

Haha, this is an excellent painting, I love the whole style of it. You manage to get me interested in the character immediately, wanting to find out more.
He's wonderfully shaded, and the colours are subtle but strong. And every little detail is perfectly suited to have a story created around it. Be it the coin which seems to have almost symbolic character, or be it the tattoo, the pipe or his weird helm and belt....Yeah, you definitely got my interest.

Very well done!
Daniel

No problem. Your image forces every viewer to build a story around it, if he is willing to spend more than two seconds for looking at it, haha

MrCorax [2008-08-17 10:09:36 +0000 UTC]

ok, this is truely great. I see that several of the comments above mention the great thing you did with the coin-fiddling. I was very impressed with that detail myself, but as it has already been mentioned, I will mention what you did with the hair. - yes the hair.
It's simple, but it works so well!
Knowing where to cut corners is an art in itself

Good stuff, but thief extraordinaire I think not, come to me when he single handedly takes down a elder red dragon as a lv 5 rouge those were good times.

IzzyMedrano In reply to Pesto-Posta [2008-07-30 06:29:16 +0000 UTC]

Somebody's been microwaving her dice. He never made it to fifth level. Campaign ended, with him being the only one unscathed and not dead. I figure that's enough to be extraordinary about. Then again, one upping RPG characters can be likened to winning the special olympics... like so many other things in life, I suppose.

Pesto-Posta In reply to IzzyMedrano [2008-07-30 22:46:01 +0000 UTC]

microwaving.. no
Just happened to have a large amount of explosives
a very high climb skill and one natural 20 when it counted
dragon opens its mouth explosives went down the dragon's mouth
and boom dragon bits. was kinda funny actually.

that sounds like good ending to me
