Distribution and habitat

Unlike other possums, which commonly live in the forests, this little fellow prefers open lavender fields of Island Union. They make nests in the bushes where they sleep during the night. In the daytime they hunt insects and eat lavender nectar and flowers. Lavender possums are highly social animals, they live in family groups. Owls and snakes are their primary predators.

Appearance and anatomy

The possum has about 18 cm length body with a long tail (about 20 cm) and large furry wings. It has a thick, soft violet-blue fur. They are not nocturnal as other possum species, that’s why their eyes are usually bright yellow. It has five toes with claws on each foot.
