The Ebola virus is an a town only four hours away from where I live...
I hope I haven't caught it. My nose started bleeding and I am feeling rather sick....
I read that Ebola signs show 21 days after catching, but it's only been three days since I left my house... X.x

Anyways, awesome job. This disease is awful! I heard a pregnant women was refused help and died of it simply sad! I wish there was a core for it!

Over 3000 dead now. I KNEW this would happen soon. The virus hit an urban area and ...

All we can do is to contain it, walling up all of Africa . Just wait until it hits the AIDS regions.

Corroded diseased look. Pain. Despair.

Yet the people being victimized are so ungrateful so as to attack those who are trying to help them. And doctors & nurses are falling victim...

Maybe we should just walk away from them, let the disease roar -but wall off the lands ...

I KNEW this would happen -1550 now dead. Earlier outbreaks were limited by being in isolated areas, but now it had access to an URBAN area. Chain reaction -remember the mousetrap and pingpong ball demonstration ?

This outbreak will go on until all natives whose genetic code provides no way for immune systems to fight it off , are dead.

Lest you call me pessimistic, I need but mention the Black Death wiped out most Europeans whose systems could not fight off the disease (death came within 1 day after symptons appeared. Maybe 3-4 hours.). After that, it couldn't get started again...

Once it spreads to Moslem lands and to Asia...

Well guys, I live in Africa, and the virus is spreading fast. It doesn't need terrorists to kill. We have't had any cases yet in SA though, I think. I hope it never arrives. The picture is amazing, and captures perfectly the fear the disease is causing.

iFoofie In reply to TheOkapiLovesKiwis [2014-10-08 16:58:34 +0000 UTC]

you are somewhat correct, for many years the virus has been living in fruit bats for many years, which then they came to infect other forest animals (including gorillas and chimps) from what I read the virus most likely spread to humans who butchered animals that were contaminated by the virus.

I'm terrified for my life the fact that it is spreading fast...

great job with ilistraiting what ebola can do. it's very discusting. i read a book based on it The Hot Zone and i've seen some movies based on it. and i've read news articals about it, and marburg.... i personally think the government are the ones who made it and used it during the wars. but thats just what i think, but i do believe it came from africa since thats were aids originated from.

j-tech In reply to TwinCult2 [2008-01-22 12:10:45 +0000 UTC]

i also think that the us government invented the virus for war popurses and tested it on this african village, and then they lost control over it.

TwinCult2 In reply to j-tech [2008-01-22 21:58:55 +0000 UTC]

awesome. glad i'm not the only one who things that. i mean it could have been a good way to go during a war only if they had an anti serim for it that way they could have givin it to military personel along with inosent people who get virus. but the people who invented it should be held responsible for it. but what do i know!?!?!?! of all the pictures i looked threw on this site for ebola yours was really the only one that really represented what it is! great work!

CharlesAnansi In reply to j-tech [2009-02-12 19:43:45 +0000 UTC]

Actually it would be a shitty bioweapon. It kills so damned fast it would never reach epidemic proportions outside of a third world country because it can't jump hosts in time. The only reason it spread so fast in Africa is because their medical practices sucked. More people were infected in hospitals than outside. So the idea of "the man" using it as a weapon against a country with good medical practices (like America), is pretty stupid.

But that is a very accurate picture.

mystickirby In reply to CharlesAnansi [2010-07-21 03:33:17 +0000 UTC]

the only reason it would not be a good bioweapon is because it is not very contageous

Kinda strange, what the public perception of Ebola is...

"At the end of the disease the patient does not look, from the outside, as horrible as you can read in some books. They are not melting. They are not full of blood. They're in shock, muscular shock. They are not unconscious, but you would say 'obtunded', dull, quiet, very tired. Very few were hemorrhaging. Hemorrhage is not the main symptom. Less than half of the patients had some kind of hemorrhage. But the ones that had bled, died."

It's a really great piece, though. Looks like something straight out of a horror movie.

Excellent depiction of flesh turning into stone or wood. Just as Giger excelled in rusting flesh and rotting metal.

Fantastic piece, really creepy, love it.

I agree that the blood tears need to be more realistic - the cracks would seriously affect their motion as they travel down the face. Also, the leftmost tooth looks a little unreal - really tiny detail but I think it needs to be more stained towards the edges or something.

As for the border, I think it's fine - A small border is necessary but if it was any thicker I think it would detract, rather than add to, the impact of the piece. As it is, it feels almost like this pic is overflowing and coming towards me. Freaky!

Really cool manip, the cracks and eyes are just magic.

Ebola... I really can't have anything against that particular virus, seeing as it is entirely mindless. It's really just a set of molecules... but it still manages to kill nine out of ten people it infects. Filoviruses fascinate me. I intend to go into virology when I finish school.
