both were very nice... I can't paint...

Actually, I'll take that back and say I've never tried much to paint... I can do anything I choose to do but I think I'd get very frustrated with myself before I get it right.

I was a yearbook photographer my junior year in high school... for years i didn't do much of anything.... too costly for film processing.. when digital came along it kick-started my passion and I've come a long ways in the past two years! and finally doing something to earn a little money from it even if not enough to live off of.

A coupla years ago, I wrote several short stories about my childhood, changing the names of me and my home town... I put them all together and made a book then, too - but I've only ever bought copies for myself to give as gifts. This one - the photobook - has been more a more serious endeavor.

And thanks!

Places like lulu.com and blurb.com make it easy (and inexpensive) to publish a quality book.. if you had art or writing and wanted a nice portfolio, you could do it through one of them for a fair price... that's all mine are - "self published"...

It is very useful to draw on nature. This sort of sketches are important to reach easiness finally. I should do it too. Now I learn charcoal. Very interesting tool.

... i'm not really into pen and pencils, but once in a while i do use them (esp. charcoal and pastels, such a messy to use)... i'm more into acrylic and oli

Well charcoal and pastels are messy but oils are much more messy I think.
Artists are devided into painters and drawers I think. I am drawer by nature more and you are painter. But it is not so important because we have common passion for arts.
I would like to use all kinds of tools and know them well but I understand that some instruments will be more interesting for me. Pencil is king for me definitely. It is very simple and has no limitation.

indeed, i never had a proper art school experience, so only know the very basic of mixing colours but definitely not good (very bad) when it comes to realistic people look

You paint very good. Much better then me. I have no special arts education but I think it is not so big problem. Now we can learn a lot of things by ourselves. Thanks to Internet.

i don't look in the internet either... got a few books and buys some art mag. once-in-a-while and look at it, sometimes the artist will give info, or feauture a step-by-step less...
and thanks so much, you're very kind
