I don't take a lot of equine photos, so I decided to read a book on it. It's really interesting some of the recommendations that they had, like this one; back light the subject to get the mane to show through. I'm not so sure if I like the results or not.Related content

It works because, with this handsome fellow, the back light and the reflected light let us see the softer muscle and skeletal shapes in the head, shoulders, and "elbow/armpit" areas that sometimes get lost with full frontal light. The facial expression shows, as does the soft looking coat texture. This is an excellent head shot.
