“Nishinoya-“

“No! I don’t want to believe it! I don’t even know you!”

“Stop being such a child, you’re my soul mate, whether you like it or not.”

“No! I refuse to believe it! My soul mate is Kiyoko-san!”

“Yuu-“

“Don’t call me that!” he screamed, launching several textbooks at your head. You ducked but one managed to land a hit against your forehead.

“I don’t want anything to do with you! You’re the worst! Go away!” he snarled, racing from the room in a rage.

The emotional pain hurt more than the cut on your forehead.

Tears rolled down your cheeks as you picked up his textbooks, placing them orderly on his desk with a tender touch.

“But I’ve always been watching you.” Volleyball practice, class, walking past the foothill store.

“I’ve always loved you.” You sobbed, lips pulled into a pitiful frown. You stumbled out of the classroom with your bag slung over your shoulder.

But it wasn’t like it was going to be of any use anymore.

Nishinoya’s lips were pulled into an angry scowl, his hooded eyes glaring at the gymnasium floor.

“Hey! Nishinoya-senpai! Nishinoyyaaa!!!!” his head snapped up and he regarded the orange haired decoy with a blank stare.

“Geez! What’s got your shorts in a twist? I’ve been calling you for the past four minutes!” Hinata whined, lips pulled into a pout.

“Nothing Shoyo, I just have stuff on my mind is all.” He explained, eyes stretching to the floor once again.

“He found his soul mate that’s all~” Tanaka sang as he twirled over to them a scary grin plastered on his face.

“NO! I didn’t!” Nishinoya screamed, chest heaving. The volleyball team stared at him in shock before Kiyoko spoke up.

“That’s wonderful.”

Nishinoya’s heart pounded painfully in his chest.

“I don’t even know her! She’s NOT my SOUL MATE!” he shouted, desperation in his voice.

He wanted to choose!

“Nishinoya…” Asahi said softly, placing a large hand on the libero’s shoulder.

“You can reject it all you want, but the world knows you’re perfect for each other. It’s the whole reason why you can see color, is it not?” Asahi reasoned, voice a gentle lull.

Guilt immediately filled Nishinoya’s stomach.

Asahi’s other half had tragically passed away in a car accident, casting his world in black and white again. It was too sudden, one day at school everything was normal before everything was thrown into disarray. He didn’t even have a chance to say goodbye.

“I-…I’m sorry Asahi-san, I just-“

“Don’t apologize, just find her.” With a little push, Nishinoya was off, legs pumping as he raced towards the classroom where he had left her.

“Hey!” he called, slamming the door open as he surveyed the room for his chosen one – the one he had pushed away.

Empty.

You sat on the railing overlooking the river, mind foggy, heart heavy.

“Go away!”

“You’re not my soul mate!”

“Don’t call me that!”

Rejection.

Blow after blow.

A tear slipped down your face as you fell forward.

Darkness, that was all he could see; it was so sudden. A blazing pain seared through his heart.

“AGHHH!!!” A blood curdling scream, his hands grabbed at his uniform, pain induced gasps tearing
from his throat.

“Nishinoya-san? Nishinoya-san!”

He remembered.

That shy face that seemed to be everywhere, caring little gestures; when he was 100 yen short, that pretty little smile that found a place in his heart, the heat he felt; especially when that smile was directed at him.

He had pushed it all away.

Now it was gone.
