This represents Jerikoh's relationship with his ambitions. He's hungry for power, glory, and for recognition. He wants to be worshipped and to be respected (or feared) by all. His ambition is like an addiction to a drug--He seeks out his ambition through Vektren's means, and it is incredibly destructive to his life; deteriorating it to the point that his true self is unrecognizable. All that he has achieved through Vektren has beeb obtained through malicious and 'evil' means, and is thus "stolen" power. He likes to believe he is achieving his greatness, but Jerikoh sees through his own lies, knowing that it is just what he tells himself to justify the terrible things he has done. The rest of the song represents his journey through achieving his greatness, realizing and coming to terms with the fact he is lying to himself and going down a path he is not meant to take, and eventually "emerging with grace".

Jerikoh's ambition often feeds him in order to prompt him to keep persevering to achieve his "greatness". It tells him that he does not need friends or family because they'll only get in the way of his goals. He only needs himself, and the opportunities Vektren provides him. He becomes a slave to his own ambition, and falls into a state of depression, loneliness, and in some ways, insanity. His antisocial tendencies magnify as he looses his mind, becoming a very dark entity.

He has entered a journey of solitude, and engaged in a lonely battle against society to prove himself. Despite his confidence and self-assured mannerisms, Jerikoh... really does not have a clue where he is going. He is lacking direction, as his heart and head are not entirely aligned with the current course that Vektren has laid out before him. His ambition has been the 'love of his life', and it's all he has cared about... But it eventually causes a decline to his psyche and he reaches rock bottom. He spends a long time in this dark place before having his realization, and ultimately leaving his evil ways behind. He wants his old self back, because his soul is his to take.

This is about him trying to find fulfillment in his life. Sometimes it feels like there is a gaping hole inside him, and he desperately tries to fill it. He tries to do so through his ambition, as he believes that being 'great' will fill the void. But it never does... He feels hollow, as his ambition has blinded him from what would truly make him happy and fulfilled.

Jerikoh is constantly chasing his ambitions, using dark methods to achieve his goals. He hides from the sunshine, the light, and instead remains in the darkness. But deep within himself, he knows what he is doing is wrong. He lets his ambition take over his mind and drown out his heart, and it efficiently makes him a slave.

Meet Me in The Woods - Lord Huron || >>Link <<
Jerikoh has fallen down a dark path, and slowly has begun to change into a darker persona. In other, more metaphorical terms, he is loosing his soul. The "darkness" is a metaphor for his ambition, and what he is willing to do to achieve it. And it is this darkness that is taking away his ability to truly LIVE and be great. Eventually, he begins to break away from this darkness' grasp, and has an epiphany. He decides to move on from his evil ways, with the help of a partner, and together they will become stronger, better individuals.

He has fully come to terms with the fact that he is confused and lost. He does not know what he wants, only that he does not want to do evil anymore. But he can't seem to break free of his darkness, as it has become habitual and part of who he is. So he desperately tries to fight his acquired nature, oftentimes blocking others out of his life in an attempt to protect them from himself. But he is determined to overcome the darkness and become a better person.

When he breaks free from the darkness, he realizes that he is now alone. His allies in Vektren are no longer his allies, as they have went their separate ways. He feels insecure and uncertain as he tries to 'find his way back home'--to who he was. He reflects on how Vektren's ways were so appealing, 'evil disguised by a city of angels', and he 'walked towards the light' assuming it would make him great. But he has since seen what his life could be, and that what he has been doing is wrong, and has thus wants to be redeemed. So he pursues this vision of what could be, on his own, and reborn.

Jerikoh, now broken free from the darkness, seeks redemption form those he has wronged. He just wants a chance to say he is sorry, even if he does not receive forgiveness. He'll pour all his ambition into being a better person and making up for all the wrongs he has committed.

Both of these characters have done so many things they are ashamed of. Both have a lot of regrets, and both have been lead astray. Both seem to have ambitions and ideals that others have exploited in order to manipulate them. But I think, deep down at their cores, they are both good people. They have just taken the wrong paths. I think they both want to be better, though.
