In this episode of Battle Beyond Epochs, I present to you a Monster Collision that transcends the 60-million-year gap, between the two fearsome macro predators that are considered the mightiest in their respective epochs : A mega-star theropod dinosaur, T. rex from the Mesozoic and the monster alligatorid crocodilian Purussaurus from the Cenozoic.
This T. rex sure looks a bit awkward but please! this is my first attempt, so be kind. I'll add some markings / patterns on the body of T. rex, later.
: Species :
●Left (the Cretaceous Badlands, North America, 67 million years ago)
Tyrannosaurus rex
●Right (the Miocene Pan-Amazonia, South America, 7 million years ago)
Purussaurus brasiliensis
Phoberomys sp.
The two obviously differed drastically in their body plans, nonetheless almost equally matched in terms of the maximum known skull length, total head to body length and the estimated bodymass, etc.
Their bites are considered among the strongest in the history of tetrapod. Since crocodilians are amphibious and versatile, a fierce battle could be expected even on land.
: Measurements data :
Tyrannosaurus rex
Maximum skull length ('Sue' specimen)=1.52m
Total head to body length ('Sue' specimen)=12.3m to 12.8m
Estimated bodymass= 5.4t to 8t
Estimated bite force= 35000 N to 57000 N
Purussaurus brasiliensis
Maximum skull length=1.45m
Estimated head to body length=10.3m to 12m
Estimated bodymass= 5.16t to 8t
Estimated bite force= 52500 N to 69000 N
Tyrannosaurus rex must have an edge in mobility on land, plus its mighty hindlimbs may be used in stomping, holding the opponent down for effective bites. Its tremendous jaws equipped with gigantic curved teeth lined up, could easily penetrate even steel like osteoderm armor of Purussaurus.

Tyrannosaurus rex
Bodymass 10
Body dimensions 10
Bite force 9
Raw power 10
Explosiveness 7
Agility 5
Endurance 5
Stability 7
Killing maneuver ('Hindlimb hold + bites') 8
Intelligence 6
Defense 7
Aggressiveness 9
Terrestrial maneuverability 8
Underwater maneuverability 1
On the other hand, P. brasiliensis' lower to the ground posture ensures better stability while its bite is considered even stronger than that of the theropod king. Had the monster caiman successfully launched a mega bite on one of T. rex's hindlimbs and made it worse by 'death rolling', even the king of theropod should be in serious trouble.

Purussaurus brasiliensis
Bodymass 9
Body dimensions 7
Bite force 10
Raw power 7
Explosiveness 8
Agility 3
Endurance 4
Stability 9
Killing maneuver ('Megaton Death-roll') 10
Intelligence 5
Defense 9
Aggressiveness 8
Terrestrial maneuverability 3
Underwater maneuverability 8
The outcome therefore, seems to be dependent on who launches effective bite, first.
The question might be, whether such a titanic crocodilian like Purussaurus really had the maneuverability sufficient enough to stand against a theropod on land.
: Which one do you believe would survive? :
As you can see however, the stage for this battle is set by the riverside where the monster caiman, somehow transcending time and space(!), launches a surprise attack from underwater on T. rex, who was about to wet his beak(toothed ones!).
Such a situation might favor semi aquatic Purussaurus who already succeeds in biting on the toes of its foe, whereas T. rex is unflinching, chewing off forelimb of the crocodilian with its lightning reflex!
Purussaurus wants to drag off the opponent and perform death rolling, but can it really be done to one of the largest and the most powerful theropods?
Which will survive?
