Love this, I would leave something intelligent but don’t have the time, I could give a proper break down later on if you’re interested?

This is a great piece - I'm surprised it hasn't got more attention than it has. .

Wonderful piece - was actually gonna ask if it was done in Illustrator, but I see that's not the case

Thanks for the comments everyone, really appreciated.

As for a "behind the scenes" look at this, well - this were done with 3D studio and the Brazil renderer. I strived to do a simple, yet effective image, and played around with the perspective a lot untill I got it just right. I've had this image in my mind for a month or so, untill I took a shot on it.

One of my own favourite things about this image, is that if you rotate it 90', it is damn near impossible to make out what it is.

Total design time were about 20 odd hour. Rendering it in fullsize took around 2 days. (full size is 4800x7200 pixels)

As for the steps, they continue downwards for a good stretch. The step lines are there, even though they are quite diffuse due to the heavy light.

Well, this is new, isn't it? Quite lovely, Jacob.

What programme? I love the colours. It would have been so easy to do this in greyscale.

Leo, the lines are there (I believe), although ever so vague in this view. Remember, this is being made available in print quality, I'm sure the lines will be viewable at a higher resolution. Also, my take on this style is that it's somewhat surrealist, like Dali's work. I'm not very well versed in the various art style terms, but I'd say conveys a subtle surreal style

β€’ Interpretation/Review: One can only dream a house with this kind of stairway design, even if own it woud take effort to keep it clean for guesses to admire when they visit. A single flower is left there by your guess, as it add the great color to this massive white. In form of beauty is no good without colors.

β€’ Pros/Cons/Suggestions: Nice concept, like the stairway design, good touch with the flower too. However the steps lines should continue on further down, I think you have forgot to add them in or something. Continue them and adding lighter shades as you go down, which will give it depth.

Please excuse my typo's, I knew I should have proof-read after writing so much, lol. I left out some things as well:

I'm interested in the behind the scenes information regarding this piece as well as what the piece means to you (if anything). Also, I just wanted to add that I wish the full-view image was just a few pixels larger. I so want a more detailed look at it, hehe.. Guess I'll have to wait for the print version to arrive.

Jake, this is an excellent submission and wonderful inaugural DAPrints piece. I'm patiently waiting for it to be published so I can Wishlist it, right away. A few things I like about the piece:

1.) The earth-tones perpetuate a warm and intimate mood which is especially notable today, as the temperature is several degrees below zero in my neck of the woods.

2.) Appropriately titled, the contest in this piece really keeps the image fresh. Had it not been for the contrast, I would have soon gotten tired looking at the piece. Keeping the idea of contrast simplistic (in this piece) was a masterful idea.

3.) The spirialing staircase. Whether intentionally done or not, the staircase gracefully moves the viewers eyes across all points of the image.

In conclusion, I believe this is a very sucessful image in terms of technique. I don't really have any emotional ties to the image, though it envokes some feelings of loneliness and warmth as well as intrigue because I want to know what's at the top of the steps and at the bottom. I eagerly await it's availability on DAPrints.com

the flower cuts the sharpness perfectly. quality like this can only come from an industry pro.

hope it's popular as a poster!

i dunno where you took this picture, but those stairs are not up to code...where's the railing?

;P

this is a great piece; it has an escher feel to it, with the undulation of the risers, and the shadow beneath...

i'm not really feeling the flower; i'm a minimalist..

overall, however, this is a beautiful piece..very serene..

Impressive image.

There’s a great snake-like flowing effect to the stairs as they coil upwards; and the solitary rose on the stair with it's soft red glow has a subtle but effective look thats suited to the whole image. The light and shadow is brilliant too - really bringing out the perspective and sharp clean angles to each step, with a perfect balance of contrast throughout.
