Not many people will know - beyond me talking about it occasionally - that back in 2011 and 2012 I had a go at making my own comic. I suspect this was something of a trend among 11- and 12-year-olds at the time. It was to follow the adventures of the anti-heroic Ioh the Porcupine, and was named Green Death after the primary colour of his fur.

Green Death (and its equally brief reboot Green Death: Rebirth) suffered from two main problems. First of all, it followed no real narrative structure. I drew what I wanted, when I wanted, and as a result it was pretty difficult to understand what was going on unless you happened to know exactly what was going on in my head. Of the ten-odd characters depicted in the comic's original 9-page run, less than half of them were named in-comic. Green Death said less about the adventurous life of Ioh the Porcupine and more about what happened to be on the 11-year-old author's mind at the time.

The second problem was that my ambition outstripped my commitment and my talent. Like I said, Green Death ran for 9 pages before becoming Rebirth, which continued on for an honestly impressive 16 pages, most of which were dialogue. Any hope that a hypothetical reader might have had to understand what was going on in Green Death's pages was quickly dashed.

Running on 8 years after my initial attempt at launching Green Death, Green Death: Abridged seeks to offer exactly what it says on the tin: an abridged version of Ioh the Porcupine's story in the form of a series of visual and textual references. Abridged will touch upon all the storylines hinted at briefly in the original, but with a much more user-friendly starting point.

Here's Ioh the Porcupine, our protagonist. A travelling magician, he wanders the planet looking for ways to become more skilled and powerful in the mystical arts. Currently, he has his eyes set on the legendary Sea Stars, a trio of sapphires whose joint power is rumoured to provide a near-limitless capacity for magic power to the one who manages to bring them all together. But where could they be?
