Description After a brief pang of inferiority complex I decided to go back to learning through imitation, didn't think I'd be able to get anywhere near perfect copying Vagabond, but I must admit I was pleased with the results!

This is Musashi, the main character of Takehiko Inoue's Vagabond, copied free hand in pencil (in about 30 mins). It's a great series and Inoue's skills with a pen are amazing. I plan to do some more copies over the next week or so!

Cheers, was my first attempt at copying the style and I was really pleased about it. Loved the original art, just had to try and copy it!

Very good indeed, but you should be careful with anything that hinders creativity. Self-depreciation is a very dangerous art-killer. Self-criticism should be as carefully administered as if it was given to your best friend. It should always be concerned by what is rather than by what is missing.

Thanks for the concern and the advice, I think you're right. I found copying gives me some confidence in that things that I thought I'd never be able to draw, are, in fact, not impossible, they just need to be worked at.
I've done more copies today and have found it to be both a rewarding form of study but also confidence building!
Thanks for the comment as ever!

Giving advice is so much easier than following it! Good luck with your projects!

It's always hard to follow advice, but sometimes, even if it's something you've thought yourself, it can be good to hear it from others too!

I must admit I wasn't sure how to draw beards until I attempted this copy. In the end it was just a simple matter of layering lots of small lines!

Thanks for the comment!
